We have spent two wonderful vacations at Airethwaite House. Each time, we found the accommodations fantastic, the food exceptional, and the landlady very helpful and knowledgeable. The house is just a short walk from the town center and is situated on a hill overlooking the lovely countryside. The guests were charming and conversation at breakfast was delightful. This was by far one of the best lodgings we found in our travels in England.

A beautiful Victorian house with many original features. The rooms are a good size and very comfortable. Location wise, the B&B is ideal with just a 5 minute walk in to the town centre. The walk is however up a quite steep hill.
The only problem with Airethwaite House is the land lady! We found her extremely rude and difficult to deal with. From my first contact with her on the telephone I found her very unpleasant, we will NOT be returning.

Nestled in Beautiful countryside, a solid typical Kendal house...all good omens. The rooms are well equiped and perfectly pleasant. The landlady is vintage 1960 in attitude. The notion of charming the visitor is not part of her brief..she is a classic landlady with lots of instructions and rules. It makes for an interesting experience.. and certainly a good story after your trip. As long as you are prepared to have breakfast at the set time and not a second later and vacate your room when told.. its fine. A place for easy going conformists and those who have a good sense of humour. Kendal is charming and the house is in a great position..and only a few moments walk away. As for the landlady she is in a 1960's time warp.. and interesting too!

A very nice B&B in a peaceful area only around 5-10 mins walk from town. Only has 3 bedrooms, and owners have obviously taken a pride in their house. Lovely bedroom - TV had video and personal selection of videos to watch, books. Extra toiletries that you don't normally get in a b&b. Communal breakfast table with very tasty breakfast. They cater for vegetarians toowith lovely bread / croissants. Highly recommended.
