My wife and I spent New Year at Beechmount. This was our first visit but definitely not our last! We arrived on the afternoon of the 30th to be greeted by Garry and Denise and immediately were made to feel so welcome. A pot of coffee was immediately produced with a delicious bakewell tart whilst we relaxed after our journey in front of the roaring sitting room fire. The house is beautiful with lovely light rooms and antiques and was decorated for the Christmas holiday which added to the atmosphere. Our room, the Esthwaite suite, was again light and airy with stunning views over Esthwaite Water and the distant Langdales. Having its own sitting room was a real bonus. Lots of thought has gone into the rooms and to make guests feel at home. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts from champagne glasses being made available to us and fresh milk in the guests fridge together with beer provided! On returning from our gala dinner at The Queen's Head on New Year Eve, Garry offered us a celebratory drink which was so very kind.
Breakfast is at a sensible time between 8.00 and 9.00 a.m and is cooked to order having filled in an order sheet the previous evening. All cereals together with grapefruit and prunes and a large jug of orange juice and plenty of toast is provided.
Garry and Denise made us feel so welcome that we did not wish to leave and we hope to be back in April when we shall be able to enjoy the stunning garden.
This is a lovely gentler part of the Lake District which over many years I have got to know well and our memories of this visit will remain for many years thanks to the kindness and hospitality of Garry and Denise.
