“PLENTY OF BETTER OPTIONS POOR ALL ROUND”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

One thing sums this place up the ciggerette dog end bucket thats outside the front door for the staff that seem to do more smoking outside than work! rooms very small and cramped hit my head on various things numerous times! There was also bits of litter around the 'beer' garden when we arrived and the staff stood there smoking and never picked anything up, lack of pride is the issue here. Breakfast was decent to be fair, the bar isnt a great little pub, as stated by some of the reviewers, the lakes is full of great little pubs this isnt one of them, avoid it if i where you.

Room Tip: book somewhere else!

“The Lake District is full of lovely hotels and inns - this is not one of them!”

Things started badly when on arrival we discovered that we had to park in a charging Council car park about 100 yds away. We were not even
expected because they had not checked their emails since I booked on Sunday night via Booking.com. The first room we were shown was just larger than the bed and although dead tired I asked to be moved. We were shown the family room which was indeed a bit bigger. Bathroom, complete with Spa bath, was about 12feet by 5 at one end reducing to 3 feet at the other. (I didn't have a tape measure so size is approx). We were then told that they weren't doing food and dog tired had to get ready to go out for supper! I could go on about bathroom door not fitting, poorly trained staff, broken light fittings and windows along with basic breakfast but I won't because this review is taking too long. Obviously a lot of money has been spent in refurb but it is lacking - sorry to the owners, I hope it improves there is massive potential - if you need an adviser give me a call!!

“Great service, comfy rooms, great base for walking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

Spent a night here while doing a bit of a tour of the lakes. We visited the pub last year for a couple of drinks and liked how it looked so decided to book a room this year.

Our welcome and check - in was very good (they gave us a free parking voucher on arrival - car park just around the corner).

The room was clean and modern. It was small and I imagine some would moan about that, but it didn't bother us in the slightest.

After a couple of pints of good ale around the village we returned to the pub to eat because The Queens Head was heaving for its Monday 'steak night' so we missed out on that. The food and service was very good at the Sun Inn.

Next morning we were treated to a huge, delicious breakfast that we did not know was in the price (bonus!).

Good value for £75 in total.

Room Tip: Great base for a stroll up Latterbarrow.

“Short break mountain biking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Stayed at the sun Inn for three nights while mountain biking in the area. Room was excellent, clean, warm and well thought out. Breakfast was from 8.30 until 9.30, which is a very civilized time. All the food in the pub at night time was excellent. Varied, well cooked and excellent presentation.

Stored mountain bikes every evening without moaning at the mud on them!

We had a brilliant stay here and look forward to returning in the near future.

“Short midweek walking break for Hawkshead and Coniston”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

we arrived mid afternoon a very warm welcome there was a party of 4 adults in 2 seperate rooms both rooms were spotlessly clean warm and accomodating tea coffee making facilities , plasma tv on the wall and a power shower which set us up for the long walking day ahead. Breakfast was served from 8.30 am and had a varied menu to suit all tastes but without doubt full english set us up for the whole day ahead. Staff were all polite and very efficient nothing was too much trouble or a problem. The first evening we ate in the pubs restaurant which had a varied menu to suit all tastes and very reasonably priced my recommendation of 'the daddy burger ' served with chips and side salad for under £10 a very satisfying meal. Both evenings we had a few drinks in the bar which had a beautiful open log fire. The owner is a very pleasant and friendly man who works very hard to ensure all his guests have a warm welcoming and memerable stay. The hotel is very clean, tidy, and very reasonably priced considering its location in the center of Hawkshead which is an ideal base for any activity in the lake district. Car parking was not a problem as we were issued with a free car park disc to use nearby car park which was a saving in itself. I would strongly recommend a visit to Hawkshead which is beautiful and to stay at Sun inn.

Room Tip: room on the front of hotel for view of the hills
