“Ideal Place To Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2011

My wife and I have just returned from a 3 day stay after New Year. This is our 3rd visit to Hawkshead and our first staying at the Red Lion. I have to say this one is our favourite and we will certainly be hoping to stay there again.
All the staff and especially the Manageress (Lynn) made the place as warm and welcoming as the log fire. The meals were excellent in both standard and value. It is pet friendly and the bar area had a lovely atmosphere each evening. The room was small (but expected from a historic building ) but spotlessly clean and with gallons of piping hot water in the power shower - much appreciated after a day out on the fells. If you want a large, modern featureless accommodation then this probably isn't for you but if you prefer to stay in the heart of the village, eat superbly , sleep really well and stay in the place with the best ambience then I would recommend this over the other choices that Hawkshead has to offer.

“Best Fish and Chips I've Had For Years!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2009

We found The Red Lion during our stay in the Lake District and went there two days in a row for the same lunch - fish and chips (better than any we have had here at home in Cornwall!). The food was excellent and the bar staff were friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend lunch here before or after a long walk - lovely.

“Friendly pub in lovely setting with superb breakfasts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2009

A great place to stay for a couple of nights. The rooms are clean, and have new bed linen and towels, but are a little bit tired. That wouldn't stop us going again. Hopefully, next time the new owners will have made some improvements.
The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, and the breakfasts were terrific.
