“Special Birthday”

Hawkshead is a great place to stay with easy access to lots of wonderful walks. The Red Lion is a lovely cosy pub with great friendly atmosphere. We arrived on a very cold January evening and was greeted with a warm welcome by the very friendly bar staff. The bar staff are very helpful, including giving good advice on the selection of real ales on tap, and helping with advice on walks in the area. The food is good value (lamb stew and dumplings is great after a long day walking). We almost missed our Sunday dinner as we miss read the restaurant closing time, but the chef was very kind and made a special effort to prepare us another very good meal. We had a great weekend and would definitely visit again.

“Birthday Weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

Arrived on Friday to a well earned pint and a hearty evening meal and the Red Lion did'nt let us down, the beef and ale pie was delicious and the beer quenshed our thurst and it did'nt stop there. We spent the whole weekend being entertained with excellent music, good food and excellent ales.
Our hosts were friendly, approachable and could'nt do enough we felt part of a familyand so did the dog (Teddie) he's on a diet, too many hotel biscuits!
If you want a holiday in the lakes Hawkshead is hard to beat for ease of travel and of course you must stay at the Red Lion where else!!

“Best Birthday Ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

Just returned home from another great weekend in Hawkshead, spent at the Red Lion Inn. My fiance arranged a surprise birthday party for me with his son, his son's girlfriend, his daughter and her boyfriend and his mam.

Lynne allowed us the use of the breakfast room, where my surprise was set. We had a lovely meal followed by the surprise of the most gigantic birthday cake I've ever seen. We all had some, gave a quarter of it to the staff who are always polite, friendly and very accomodating. The rest we took home on Sunday.

Recommend anyone having their birthday tea here, as the staff go out of their way to help and make your stay and meal the best ever.

Would like to take this opportunity to thank Lynne, Paul and their son Jake, as well as all the staff for making our stay memorable as always. This is the only place we will stay everytime we visit the Lake District.

Room Tip: Any the Red Lion Inn cater for any parties any size, including dogs and children.

“brilliant atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

we arrived in hawkshead on the saturday morning to do a walk to tarn hows. After a strenuous 3 hours in sweaty conditions my wife and i arrived back at the village. The first hostelry we fell upon was the red lion where we each quaffed a well deserved pint of cider! As it was lunchtime and the scouse derby was on tv the atmosphere was electric, especially as i am a man utd fan and most of the pub were liverpool fans!We were both so impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of Lynn and Paul we decided to stay overnight and were lucky enough to get the last available room.We cannot say how much we enjoyed our stay, with good food, good beer and great company. Needless to say we will return some time in the near future, so keep up the good work!!

“Excellent Walking Weekend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

Have just returned from a group walking weekend in the Lakes where our party of 12 fellas stayed at the Red Lion run by Paul and Lynn. I have to say everything about the place is excellent. From the greeting we received on the Friday to the quality of the ale, to the high standard of the locally sourced food, we found so much to make us want to return. The service provided was just what we wanted - genuinely friendly with nothing too much trouble. I would heartily recommend the Red Lion to anyone wishing to stay in the lovely village of Hawkshead.
