“Treat Yourself”

Had dinner here on 9/02/12. Brilliant meal overseen by manager Elliot. He gave us a bedroom tour which was amazing and guests described the the hot mosaic tile heated beds in the spa as unrivalled. Whole atmosphere was warm and so pleasing. The owners treat this place as their baby and have given it their best with lovely decor and great attention to detail. Though naturally not cheap for this standard, it is good value and we will definitely return to stay for a couple of days.

“All in all.....A wonderful hotel”

Stayed here for 1 night and I could not fault anything. Location is fantastic for exploring the lakes and Grasmere is much nicer than neighbouring Ambleside in my opinion. Our room was on the 1st floor with its own balcony overlooking the river. The room wa absolutely spotless - as was the rest of the hotel. The breakfast was amazing and the service. All the staff members we met were very pleasant and accommodating and always gave a smile which goes a long way. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone.

“Excellent location for short break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We stayed at the Rothay Garden Hotel at the end of January after taking up an offer that I had for a two night break. Our stay included 2 nights in a Loft Suite, breakfast and dinner both days plus a bottle of champagne, some ginger bread and £30 credit in the lounge.

We stayed in the Silver Howe suite which was lovely. Although it did face onto the road and there is no double glazing due to the age of the building we heard very little noise whilst we were there. The bed in the room was huge as was the shower which was a double shower which we hadn't been expecting. There was loads of storage space if you'd been staying for more than a couple of nights and it was nice to have a sofa so that if you were in the room you didn't always have to sit on the bed! i was a bit concerned by how low the beams might be as my other half is over 6 foot but actually the beams are only low one side of the bed so it's not anything to worry about.

When we arrived we thought we'd eat in the reatsurant the first night but were happy to eat elsewhere the second night even though we had dinner included both nights. However, this quickly changed as the food we had on the first night was fantastic. They have a great selection of wines and the desert (apple crumble souffle) was the nicest desert I've possibly ever had! It was also really nice to then go into the lounge to have coffee and petit fours and at no point during dinner were we rushed. We ended up eating in the restaurant both nights and the food was equally as good the second night. Breakfast was also good with a nice selection on offer.

We did also give the spa a visit on our second day. Although it's quite small it was really nice to be in there looking out across the river or the garden and in the warm away from the cold. Guests are obviously more aware of this facility now, as although we were the only people in there to start off with 2 other couples did come in after a while.

It's worth pointing out as well that our package included a bottle of chamapagne in the room. I wasn't expecting anything great but when we arrived it was in the room chilling in an ice bucket and turned out to be a bottle of pretty good quality champagne so this was a pleasant suprise. Also when we first arrived the promised gingerbread wasn't in the room which really didn't bother us but about 5 minutes later someone knocked on our door to bring it up for us and apologising that they'd forgotten to put it in the room before we arrived.

The only tiny issue we had was that when we checked in no one explained that the lounge credit we had was purely if we had any food in the lounge and wasn't for drinks. This wasn't a huge issue but just a bit annoying that it wasn't clarified at check in.

Overall our stay was really great and i'd definitely recommend to anyone looking for a little bit of luxury after a day out in the Lakes.

“A wonderful place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We stayed at Rothay Garden Hotel for dinner, bed & breakfast. It was absolutely stunning! From the sumptuous decor to the fabulous food & attentive staff, we couldn't have chosen anywhere better. We're from north Cumbria but it really felt as if you were far away from your troubles and wrapped in a warm, cosy bubble!

As soon as we got to the hotel we were upgraded to a bigger room free of charge since the hotel wasn't so busy that evening. The room was gorgeous with a balcony and view over the river. It was so lovely in the evening to listen to the water.

I spent a couple of hours in the well-equipped spa while my husband read in the bar with a few drinks. The spa was fantastic, especially the infra-red heated loungers, which were perfect for lying on while looking out onto the garden.

The food was of a high quality and the choice was excellent - the sea bass was especially tasty! The hotel's wine & drinks selection was vast - the prices were reasonable for a hotel of this quality.

All in all, a perfect stay! Thanks to Rothay Garden for a wonderful time; we shall return!

“Pure Luxury”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We recently stayed at The Rothay Garden Hotel in Grasmere and felt we must write a review to encourage other travellers to visit.
We booked at the last minute to celebrate a birthday, we stayed in a loft suite which was wonderful with a seperate seating area, double shower and relaxing bath, large queen size bed with 2 televisions one in the seating area the other by the bed. The decor was individual and contemporary and the staff attentive at all times.
We were greeted by a helpful receptionist who chatted about our journey and lifestyle, our bags were carried to the top floor by a lovely young man who later served us in the bar. We also visited the spa which is free to guests and although small was perfect to relax in and watch the cold wintery day blow by from the jacuzzi and saunas and to be honest you needed nothing more.
We booked our evening meal in the hotel also and enjoyed amazing michelin quality cuisine in a beautiful setting served by well trained efficient staff. Breakfast was also first class and nothing was too much trouble, my only critisism was that the restaurant staff particularly at the evening meal were a little regimented and offered no real conversation, don't get me wrong I didn't want to sit and chat with them but I felt that they were aware they were there only to serve and not to engage with guests which I feel is a shame, if we attempted to ask questions we were only given a shy nod or a smile. The owner clearly provides a wonderful hotel of which he should be proud, we had a truly amazing stay and look forward to returning in the future.
