“A sanctuary with a personal touch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

My husband and I stayed at How Foot Lodge in December and found it to be a delightful, cosy haven and a perfect base for exploring the Lakes District.

Our room was clean and spacious and the breakfast was fresh and lovely (with a wide range of options to choose from) but what tips this is over the edge for me is the personal touches;
- I am pregnant and Kate went out of their way to accommodate/check my dietary requirements
- Provide us with a room that was easily accessible etc
- and lastly, when we left we forgot to take my pregnancy pillow with us and didn't realise until we had reached London Kate promptly sent it to us via post.

We would definitely return!

“Little gem in Grasmere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

Just got back from a short break where we stayed at How Foot. We stayed in a standard room and expected something fairly basic, which would have been fine. Couldn't believe when we got to the room to find it huge, with a chaise longue and TV area aswell! The bath & shower room looked quite new, well-decorated, room was immaculate and we relaxed almost straightaway. Nice touches all around like fresh milk, 'white company' bathroom accessories and down duvet and fresh cotton sheets on the bed. Only - very minor - thing was that the bed was double and we are both tall and used to a huge bed but that was fine really, we could handle it!
The whole building was well-designed and set up for a B & B where you aren't herded or rushed around around, it felt quite personal. Very nicely decorated, it fit well with the age of the building.
Very helpful owners who went out of their way to make sure everyone had a good stay. They work hard, running the B & B and nearby Columbine restaurant between them. We ate at the Columbine and recommend it.
Breakfast next morning very nice, all fresh & quality ingredients with fresh coffee (a must for us coffee snobs). All in all very good value given the cost of staying at the lakes these days, we paid £72 a night per room with breakfast. We are very fussy about where we stay but we would go back there if we were to return to the Grasmere area and know we would enjoy it.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are big.

“Just Great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

Just perfect, a fabulous B and B , We had the room with the sun room for our 4 day break and as the weather was not so good it felt really cosy and yet roomy. Everything about the place was faultless , the house and quiet location, the comfy bed, the privacy, the breakfasts and the touches like fresh milk left out for us each day in our rooms. Highly recomended.

“The perfect base to explore the Lakes!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

Coming from South Africa, we wanted something affordable but also beautiful. Our plan was to explore the Lakes for a few days so we looked for a bed and breakfast in Grasmere. Most of the places were above our budget, and then we discovered How Foot Lodge. What a treat! Great value for money and what a beautiful establishment! From our room, we heard sheep baaing and we saw rabbits hopping all over the field. Breakfast was 5 star and the fruit salad was more like dessert! We really didn't want to leave How Foot but we know that one day when we visit the Lakes again, we will definitely be spending some time at this B 'n B!
