“In general all very good; just a few niggles.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

All very pleasant. My second stay (was here couple of years ago). Satnav (TomTom, anyway) doesn't quite take you there, it's a bit before you expect it. About five minutes from town centre at most.

Big free car park. As with most travelodges now, free wifi in bar area - a really good move! Just waiting for it to be free in the rooms...

Room good and clean, great TV with sleep function! However, no electronic program guide available. Not very warm, though; wish they would stick the heating on when they know people have booked and will turn up in the evening - especially when I arrived (with a number of colleagues), on one of the coldest nights for the year! The heaters take ages to heat the room...

They had prob with credit card readers when I was there. Bar couldn't accept cards (and couldn't process them, for some reason, on the reception reader...'Computer says no' they said... Rubbish IT department, methinks... Luckily had just enough spare real money...

Had gammon and chips, quite OK, good value. However no mustard! ('We don't have any here') and the tables were atrociously sticky - not been cleaned for ages..Cooked breakfast just about OK; I wish Travelodge would get larger side/bread plates, though, as all of them are not even big enough for a single slice of toast/bread.

“Ok ish”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Out of the way TomTom didn't know where this place was, but we did find it.
I wish they would put curtains in the room, it would make such a differance.
Nice bar on the property, you can get food here. we didnt and we went into the town and found out that all the pubs stop serving food after 4pm
but fantastic fish and chip shop called Main Street Fisheries on the high street, oh boy they where fab.
All the shops small town to us seems like the town that time forgot. so they are expensive.
also been told that summer time is the same no food after 4pm.
Fab place for walkers, the views well they are breath taking.

“Quiet,clean and friendly”

We have stayed here several times and have written a previous review. A two night stay cost us £12 and £19 respectively for Fri/Sat nights. The room was clean and functional and we felt that the whole place was cleaner and warmer than previously. It's in a quiet location and we have never experienced any noise. We spoke at length with the manager who was welcoming and friendly and it was clear he is keen to make this a better than average Travelodge. We have stayed at lots of Travelodge's round the country and they can be a bit hit and miss, however this one is definitely better than average thanks to the professionalism of the manager and his staff. The town centre is about a 15 min walk and parking is a bit of a nightmare, especially in the day time. There are several good pubs which serve food and we have eaten twice at the Tithe Barn Station Road which comes highly recommended. We travel with our dog and most places are dog friendly although we always ask first. We love Cockermouth for it's location and the ease with which you can travel to other locations. It's quieter and less "touristy" than Keswick but still within easy reach. This is definitely one place we will keep coming back to especially with option of the cheap Travelodge deals!

“Quiet, warm and comfortable”

One night stay, January 2012. Booked on internet, with breakfast for 2. We arrived late, about 2330, having telephoned in advance to say we would be late. No problems with check-in etc, in the room quickly.
Room spacious, basic but adequate furnishings. As Travelodge regulars know there are no frills, so you take your own soap and shampoo etc. Here there was one small bar of soap.
We slept well, no nearby noise from others.
Breakfast very good, buffet style, plenty bacon etc.
I enjoyed the stay, staff were helpful and attentive when needed, but not overbearing. Location is on the outskirts of Cockermouth, probably a mile walk into the town, downhill going, uphill coming back. Parking is a serious problem in Cockermouth, so leave your car at the Travelodge and walk in.
We would go back here again without hesitation.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front have a view of the lake district fells, those on the back just look out onto tree...
