“Look no further, this is a perfect B & B”

The Six Castlegate Guest House is exactly as advertised on their web page, something that often isn't the case. As my family discovered last week, the pretty bedrooms are pretty, the showers have lashings of pressure and hot water, the breakfasts are yummy, the establishment is spotlessly clean and Alan and Angela are delightful hosts. If you are lucky enough to get a reservation to stay at Six Castlegate, consider yourself one of the lucky ones.

Room Tip: I have seen all the rooms, all are lovely and there is an assortment to choose from. We stayed in...

“Fantastic B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

From the moment we arrived, when the owner walked up the road in the rain to help us with our luggage, we knew SIx Castlegate was a good choice. Apart from the great service and friendly welcome, it's a lovely building in a good location, the rooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated, the showers are hot and plentiful and the breakfasts are imaginative and generous, including fresh fruit, really good quality veggie sausages and homemade potato cakes. The welcome tray in our room was stocked up with biscuits, bottled water and fresh coffee, and there were thoughtful touches like local toiletries in refillable bottles. Add to this a fantastic vegetarian restaurant, the Quince and Medlar, right opposite, and access to some pleasant walking in open countryside, and this is the perfect place to stay for vegetarians. It's also excellent value for money, providing better accommodation and food than many more expensive hotels. There is no parking, but the owner has a permit for parking in the leisure centre close by.

We are very much looking forward to to going back next time we are in the Lakes.

“Fabulous Six Castlegate ticks all my boxes!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I have stayed here twice now, this most recent visit was a solo trip and I had the same wonderful experience of staying in a beautiful location with kind and thoughtful owners whose welcome is second to none. The hotel is as clean and tidy as ever, crisp white sheets, fresh milk, freshly made potato cakes for breakfast amongst other delights, fresh fruit and my favourite Dorset cereals. Lovely bathroom with huge walk in shower, comfort, quiet, free wi-fi, as much or as little attention as you need from the owners; I felt quite pampered and well taken care of by Alan and Angela. Really one of the very best places I have stayed in a long while and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Cockermouth.

“Perfect weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

My wife and i only stayed for a weekend but were made to feel extremely welcome by the hotel owners. Breakfast was very tasty with a good selection to choose from. We both had the cooked breakfast which i would highly recommend. The bedroom and en-suite was spotless and the bed very comfy. Only disappointment was we didn't get a room with a view. Will definitely stay again in the future. Hopefully for a week next time to see more of the beautiful Cumbrian scenery.
By the way good free wi-fi reception too.
Other hotel owners should come have a stay here and see how it should be done.

“Lovely New Years Weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We spent a lovely New Years weekend at Six Castlegate. Upon our arrival we were greeted by Alan who took our bags and gave us a choice of two rooms we could stay in. Our room, Scafell was lovely, with views out onto the mountains just seen over the roof tops, and the en-suite had a bath. For our two night stay is was perfect. Breakfast was available between two times in the morning up until about 9.30 on New Years day. The cooked breakfast was excellent and there was a great variety of other options too. We definitely would stay again!
