“Sports Bar with rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2009

Stayed at the Globe recently with three work colleagues, they stayed all week, I stayed one night only. Although the hotel does have something of a battered appearance at the moment, a large staircase and function room on the first floor point to former glories. The landing to the rooms was pretty shabby with cobwebs in all corners and the door lock to my room would not have kept out the most clueless intruder.

The rooms themselves were OK, recently refurbished and decorated to a 1980s colour scheme but fully equipped and with en-suite facilities including an excellent shower cubicle.

Downstairs is a large bar with TVs on every wall, while I was there they were showing wall to wall cricket from the Caribbean. A good range of local beers on sale with reasonably priced bar snacks. Next door is an excellent Indian restaurant as well.

Be careful when parking your car in the main street, permits are required and I'm told the wardens are all up early to catch the unwary. The hotel can supply permit cards on request.

Overall, OK for the price, especially if you like TV sports.

“Fine hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2009

We stayed in the Globe Hotel on the way down from a trip to Scotland. The rooms were cheap at £60 for B and B and the breakfast the next morning was excellent a choice of fruit juices and cereals and a lovely tasty cooked breakfast with the tastiest sausage ever!!
The rooms were very old fashioned but we felt this gave it character. They were very clean. There was a bit of noise from below but we were told about it when we booked and it didn't go on late. All in all we were happy with the hotel

“Great Weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 March 2008

Just returned from a three night easter break in The Globe Hotel. Since we were last there it has been re furbished throughout and is now great value for money.

At 55 pounds bed and breakfast in a warm well decorated cosy en suite room, with tea and coffee facilaties, telephone and tv we were more than satisfied.

The staff were great and breakfast typical Cumbrian with cereal and a more than ample full english.

With a central position on a busy main street (nightlife wise) it was ideal for visiting the large choice of local bars resteraunts and cafes, all within ten minutes walking.

The bar and night club in the hotel catered for all ages. Friday was full of young ones but saturday and sunday the age range was over 30 with music to suite.

Anyone who is young at heart and enjoys a lively, local atmosphere cant go wrong by staying in The Globe.

We held our wedding at the globe and had over 40 family and friends travel up from Coventry. The service was top class and the food was out standing the portions were enough for a horse to eat. The staff at the hotel were friendly and were very accomodating towards our party. The rooms were basic and clean. Fantastic weekend end we would go back to stay again.

“Stay Away”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2005

Had the misfortune of booking this hotel for three nights although I only lasted one. The room was very noisey due to a function room directly below.
The staff were rude and the room was horrible.
The worst value hotel I have ever stayed in.
Reminded me of Royston Vassey.

Ii did however get money off when I complained and found a great B+B.
