Stayed at the Globe recently with three work colleagues, they stayed all week, I stayed one night only. Although the hotel does have something of a battered appearance at the moment, a large staircase and function room on the first floor point to former glories. The landing to the rooms was pretty shabby with cobwebs in all corners and the door lock to my room would not have kept out the most clueless intruder.
The rooms themselves were OK, recently refurbished and decorated to a 1980s colour scheme but fully equipped and with en-suite facilities including an excellent shower cubicle.
Downstairs is a large bar with TVs on every wall, while I was there they were showing wall to wall cricket from the Caribbean. A good range of local beers on sale with reasonably priced bar snacks. Next door is an excellent Indian restaurant as well.
Be careful when parking your car in the main street, permits are required and I'm told the wardens are all up early to catch the unwary. The hotel can supply permit cards on request.
Overall, OK for the price, especially if you like TV sports.
