This hotel must be highly recommended!

A very pleasant environment close to the centre of Cockermouth.

We received person attention from the owners of the hotel, which is in complete contract to the attention that one receives when staying in a large chain establishment.

Our room was comfortable, warm and nicely decorated.

No negative comments at all. We will return!

Very nice place to stay, found by chance on the internet, but worked out really well. Friendly staff and It is probably the finest building in Cockermouth, food was really excellent, in fact could not manage dessert either night, as we ate all the plentiful mains and starters! Breakfast also good with fresh local ingredients and wonderful bread baked on the premises. The bread was so nice we bought a loaf to bring home. Room spotless and a good size. So will recommend and hope to go back.

My wife and I stayed at the Manor House in October last year, 2010, and when we decided on another Lakelands break, the Manor House was the first and only choice.
After exchanging a few E-mails with Carol Ann, we were given a choice of days and dates, which were updated as bookings were taken and rooms vacated.
We booked the balcony room at the front of the hotel, and like our former experience, it was first class.
The weather may have been pretty awful, but the service and hospitality at the Manor House was excellent once again.
The fact that the owners of this hotel took the time and trouble to say what rooms were and were not available in the time frame we wanted just confirmed we had made the right choice.
Old world values and decor backed up with modern technology. There is now a boosted wifi signal to all areas of the hotel, not easy in an old building with substantial walls, so checking e-mail on the netbook was 'a skoosh' in Scottish parlance.
Food was again top drawer, with breakfasts which lasted all day as opposed to all day breakfasts.
To sum up, we have stayed here twice, and will stay here again in the future. We have no hesitation in recommending the Manor House to anyone visiting Cockermouth or looking for a base to tour the Lakelands.

I stayed here for 2 days as part of a wedding party. They couldn't have made us more welcome and were very attentive. The food was exceptionally good and was plentiful. I have a hearty appetite but I couldn't quite finish every bite. The breakfast was excellent - homemade bread toast, homemade preserves, beautiful locally sourced sausage and black pudding - and all was piping hot and cooked to perfection. The wedding meal likewise was delicious. And what nice hosts. It was comfortable and relaxing - we were made to feel that this was our home from home. The decor is a trifle old fashioned in places, but everything was clean and comfortable so this was not a problem - if you find it so, you are being a bit picky and were probably after a different kind of holiday experience. I'd have no hestitation going here again or recommending it to anyone.
