“Fantastic stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

This was our first time staying in a Guest House rather that a hotel and both the misses and I thought it was great. Absolutely no bad words to say about Lacet House at all. The hosts, Graham and Catherine, were very accommodating and looked after us all weekend. The full Cumbrian breakfasts for myself in particular were a real highlight, with a long list of alternative choices available for those who prefer a lighter breakfast. The first morning we took the option of a lie in and had breakfast in bed, which was a real treat, especially after the week the misses had just endured. Ambleside itself was a great little village/town. Plenty of pubs, although a couple of them aren't that nice - we found the Royal Oak to be the best, and lots of nice restaurant's with a particular recommendation for Dodds Restaurant on the high street. All in all I would definitely recommend Lacet House to anyone. Perfect location, fantastic breakfast’s and superb hospitality - can't go wrong.

“"A relaxed break"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

It was like staying with family. The room had a lovely view and and was layed out was perfect. Although our room wasn't ensuit we had a bathroom to ourselves. I was impressed with the way you could order your the night before, and the children loved their breakfast. Graham and Cathrine mentioned of a near by place that would be ideal as we were wanting to just chill out, a place where they used to take their children when they were young.Being able to leave the car keys with Graham and Cathrine while went out for the day was good. We willdefinitely be staying again.

“One of the best B&Bs in Ambleside”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

3 of us stayed for 3 nights over the New Year in the 1st floor family room (No 2), which came with it's own built-in ensuite.

It wasn't the biggest room we've ever stayed in but we only needed it for sleeping in and it was perfectly adequate for that.

The Good:

- Just a few minutes walk to shops, restaurants, cinemas and pubs
- Very clean and tidy
- Beds made and room tidied every day
- Very friendly hosts
- Good breakfast, plenty to eat, can even have it in bed if requested
- Free parking
- TV with Freeview channels
- Good view

The Not so Good:

- The mattresses are probably due for renewal. The tendancy is for people to sit on the bed to watch the TV and this has left a dip in one end of the mattresses
- The extractor fan in the en-suite didn't appear to be working
- The breakfast room was a little quiet - I think it could benefit from some background music or radio

Things other people have said:-

- The curtains are thin enough to let in street lighting - it didn't affect us but I can imagine it could be a problem in summer
- I didn't notice any road noise or house noise, but I wear earplugs anyway
- The shower ran warm and cool depending, I assume, upon whether other guests were running a tap or not. It wasn't a problem for me; I just adjusted the dial accordingly

All in all, this is one of the best Ambleside B&Bs we've stayed in (and we've stayed in many over the years) and we'd like to return in future

Room Tip: Take ear-plugs and an eye mask if you're a light sleeper

“Another lovely stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

This was our second New Year in Ambleside and our second stay at Lacet House which is perfectly situated for a day out walking or a potter around town. Catherine and Graham are welcoming, friendly and provide an excellent breakfast with a good veggie option. Our room was warm, cosy and comfortable with lovely soft bedding. We'll definitely be staying again.

“A warm winter welcome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

We like to visit the lakes in Nov/Dec to get out in the fresh air, enjoy the scenery and get into the Christmas spirit. Graham and Catherine were lovely and welcoming, it felt like we were staying with family! We couldn't have asked for a nicer room, it was perfect for us as it had a huge 6ft 9' bed, a luxury for 6ft 4' Phil who normally has cold feet in B&B's due to tiny beds! There was a huge choice for breakfast and the option of breakfast in bed was a nice touch, although we preferred to eat ours downstairs next to the beautiful Christmas tree! The location and facilities are perfect for either a laid back treat or for exploring the area, we will definitely stay again!
