just returned from a weekend at the melrose. The owners were very friendly and made us feel at home straight away, gave us lots of general helpful info and answered any questions. room was spotless and very cosy. Breakfast was lovley and fresh not greasy at all, nothing was too much trouble, advised us on walks ect. later that day we had the privelage of using their langdale spa passes and had a fantastic swim/sauna ect. just exactly what was needed after walking miles in the rain ect. ( recommend the use of this facility) . definatley will be returning again and a big thanks for a great wkend

We had a lovely stay at Melrose - coming up after work meant we arrived a bit later but we had such a warm welcome from Lyn when we arrived. Breakfast was really nice and lots of it - just what is needed before a long walk in the Lakes. Alan was full of handy hints and great places to visit.
Would recommend this place to any of our friends.
Great location - centre of town for all the facilities in Ambleside

We stayed at the Melrose ove New Year and had a really enjoyable stay. We stayed in a room on the top floor which was very comfortable and immaculately presented. The location of the Melrose is perfect, we arrived on the Friday, parked our car in the secure car parc - payed £9 extra and was about 5 mins walk away but worth it - and then didn't use the car again until we left. We walked on both days straight from the guesthouse, it rained most of the time we were there but the provision of a drying room for our waterproofs was very welcome and meant we could walk again the following day.

We recently stayed at the Melrose Guesthouse in Ambleside, Cumbria for a New Year break. I would just like to say that we had a fantastic stay. Alan and Lynn are wonderful hosts, the food was excellent and the room was great, looking forward to returning very soon. Thank you from Steve and June
