Hostel is big but feels quite cosy, staff wonderfully helpful and knowledgeable, good sized rooms with basin and overbed light. Location right on the water near the pier for ferry's. the Food at the restaurant was OK, but a good pub is a short walk away along the shore. THe Cafe at the Pier has the best egg and bacon rolls. In a good central location for whole lake district, and I would very happily stay her again.

We stayed in a private 3 bed room which consisted of 1 bunk bed and a single bed. The beds were old and made of metal which resulted in a fair bit of noise when rolling over in the night. The room was small but adequate and was in need of some decorating. The room had a separate shower room and toilets were shared communally on the corridor. Breakfast was served in the restaurant and was excellent value at £5. There is a short walk of 10-15mins into the centre of Ambleside which wasn’t a problem for our group. Overall a good experience.

Lovely couple of nights over the October half term with husband and two teenagers. Hostel was great, food in restaurant particularly good, certainly better thaqn the grub on offer in the mid/ low price range local pubs. Location just fantastic, right on the water. Rooms basic but fairly clean. Lounges, kitchen and games rooms etc busy but well cared for. Definitely coming back.

We stayed for one night in a family room for £95 over the October half term. This was our first every stay in a youth hostel and for this price we had expected better. The whole place looked run down, there was no toilet paper in the shared toilets on arrival - the room was tired and and public areas have old grotty furniture and carpets look well past their sell by date. Towels cost an extra £2 per person - it looked like previous guests had used the curtains in the room as an alternative - dirty and with toothpaste marks. Location great - but at this price the room was not good value.
