Stayed here for two nights as a birthday surprise for my wife. The owners could not have been more helpful. The room was fine, the location superb. Endorse what the previous reviewer says about breakfast..absolutely spot on. I cannot believe what the first reviewer says about Croyden House, they must have been looking to stay in a four star hotel rather than a b&b.
The couple who run this guest house work very hard to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. They are friendly and approachable. The tearoom right next door (owned by the same people) serves home made produce with a good variety of food. The pot of coffee is to die for and very very reasonable. No rip offs at this first class guest house.

Have recently returned from a short break in the lovely lakes.

We were delighted to find Croyden House & the delicious tea rooms.

The breakfast was probably one of the best I have had. Make sure you try the Home made marmalade.

Sylvias tea rooms next door serve loads more fab home made food & cakes Definately worth a visit.

Although the rooms are small in comparison to a large hotel ours was immaculate & very nicely decorated with ensuite shower with loads of hot water (very welcome after a days walking).

The walks in this area are breathtaking our favourite was the one in Grassmere (take the open top bus).

There are lots of resaurants & shops in Ambleside and we found Croyden House to be very centrally located, we didnt use the car the whole time we were there.

The rooms in which you can't swing a kitten let alone a cat were uninspiring to say the least, that's before we mention the dated decor and pokey en-suite.

Having stayed at lots of great B&Bs in the lakes in a similair price bracket we were sorely disappointed in our two night stay.

Breakfast times are rigid 7.30 am until 8.30am allowing no scope for a relaxing start to the morning. On the second morning despite saying we'd skip the ludicrously early breakfast we were still awoken by the proprietors.
Overall unwelcoming and disappointing. Probably only gets custom through the location and the sheer volume of tourists to the very picturesque ambleside.
