“rip off, do not stay here”

Even though we had been asked to advise Ambelsdie Lodge of our time of arrival there was no-one there to greet us. At reception was a tatty piece of paper with a telephone number written on it. After a few attempts we eventually got through to someone who came down to take us to our room which was freezing cold. We were told that 'the heating doesn't come on until 3pm' (it was only midday at the time). The decor of the room and facilities were basic. We had booked a room with a separate shower and bath. They were not separate. The shower was over the bath.
After a trip to the warmth of the nearest pub to warm up we returned to our room which was still cold. We contacted staff via telephone who brought us an oil filled, plug in radiator! I then started to run a bath (to warm up again!) only to find that the water was lukewarm. Another phone call was made to the still unmanned reception to report this. Someone came to check the water before going off to check the boiler. On his return he told us 'a fuse had gone'. Eventually the water was hot enough for a much need bath.
The breakfasts were pretty basic too.
There is nothing to recommend about this place. The website is very misleading.

Upon walking in to what seemed like an unoccupied building, It was very dark and the unmanned desk was a telephone with a note asking to ring for assistance. After a couple of attempts the phone was answered by someone who initialy seemed confused as to why we were calling.
Eventully we were greeted and offered a 4 poster room with jaccuzi bath £80 ... a bargin ! appart from the very creaky bed the room was fantastic. Breakfast was good,
Would reccomend this place.

My boyfriend decided to treat me to a surprise weekend away at the Ambleside Lodge. We had a great time within a lovely setting, ideally located for a stroll around town or the surrounding fells.
The staff were very friendly and the room was clean and spacious and good value for money.
Were are already thinking of going back soon to another relaxing break away.

Room Tip: We would highly recommend the jacuzzi room

“All style, no substance”

Pulling into the drive way, gives you nothing but high expectations, however once you walk though the door and are met only by a counter sporting a bell (which may or may not work) and a scrap of paper with a phone number wrote on, makes you wonder. But before all is lost the friendly owner appears and happily shows you to your room before sorting out all the necessary formalities (paying, breakfast timings). Once my fiancée and I where settled in and the weather turned a shade cooler, it was obvious that the heating wasn't adequate for the room and we spent most of the night freezing. The following morning was just as eventful as the cold water tap on our jacuzzi/shower bath would happily turn on but not off (without some force), compile this with the fact that when other guests used either hot or cold water it changed the temprature of our shower, causing my fiancée to scold herself. Finally once down in the basement for breakfast, it was apparent that instead of local produce, the owners prefer local supermarket mass produce for their ingredients.
