Even though we had been asked to advise Ambelsdie Lodge of our time of arrival there was no-one there to greet us. At reception was a tatty piece of paper with a telephone number written on it. After a few attempts we eventually got through to someone who came down to take us to our room which was freezing cold. We were told that 'the heating doesn't come on until 3pm' (it was only midday at the time). The decor of the room and facilities were basic. We had booked a room with a separate shower and bath. They were not separate. The shower was over the bath.
After a trip to the warmth of the nearest pub to warm up we returned to our room which was still cold. We contacted staff via telephone who brought us an oil filled, plug in radiator! I then started to run a bath (to warm up again!) only to find that the water was lukewarm. Another phone call was made to the still unmanned reception to report this. Someone came to check the water before going off to check the boiler. On his return he told us 'a fuse had gone'. Eventually the water was hot enough for a much need bath.
The breakfasts were pretty basic too.
There is nothing to recommend about this place. The website is very misleading.
