I can only add to the general praise for Compston House. Just spent three nights with snow and sub zero temperatures outside but the house was very warm and cosy inside, matched by the warm reception you will recieve from Sue and Jerry.
Very well positioned for restaurants, pubs and cinemas (three nearby) and although there is no parking on site (this is common in Ambleside) you are provided with a permit to park for free in local car parks.
Sue prides herself on her breakfasts and Jerry is a pursuasive advocate.Having worked my way down the option list over the last three days...but still not exhausted the menu I can confirm that their pride is completely justified.
Highly recommended.

I'll keep this short as this was our second visit to Compston House. it's just as good as the last time with a warm friendly welcome from the owners, spotlessly clean throughout, comfortable accommodation and a delicious and plentiful breakfast.

I have just returned from a weekend here with my husband, we stayed in the New York room and it was perfect loved all those little touches. Sue and Jerry are wonderful hosts and do anything to make your stay warm and welcoming. The breakfasts are fab, they certainly don't want you to go hungry! We had lot's of snow on the sat but this didn't spoil our holiday and we have some amazing pictures. Ate in the evening at the Priest hole and Zeferelli's lovely meals at both. Will definately be back and perhaps would like to try out the Florida Room next time as this is our Fav holiday destination. Thank you Sue and Jerry for a wonderful stay.

Having seen the reviews on TripAdvisor, I have to say I felt this B&B was ok, but a little over-rated. It is in a good location, but we had to park around the corner on the street, which is a little inconvenient when it rains. The B&B owners are friendly and helpful, giving advice on places to eat/walk, which is nice. The breakfasts (a major selling point for us) were ok - yes, the pancakes are fluffy, tasty American style and a good way to start the day, but other than that, the meal was average. The room we had was small but clean and comfortable. The ensuite was small, but had what we needed. The room was quiet, and we did get a good night's sleep. All in all, having stayed in other B&Bs in Ambleside, I'd say this B&B is average, and would recommend it to others.
