“Chic but shabby”

What a lovely hotel and surroundings. We had book room 105 the ultimate room and paid £50.00 deposit over the phone. When we arrived the receptionist took full payment of the room, which was not a good start then we went up to the room the initial appearance was fabulous, but as we started to unpack we started to notice the distinct lack of cleanliness, there was dust on all of the tops and floor, there was nuts and dust and items of clothing still on the floor by the side of the couch. We then noticed on the black base sheet which hund down the bed was covered in white stains (ergh). There was refreshment provided but the biscuits were out of date and the apples were covered in dust and soft. The receptionist told us there would be menus in our room it didnt ( we then had to go down and wait for them to be printed). We then went down to the spa which was lovely until we got in the jecuzzi which clearly needs work done to it. we went to the terrace bar/restaurant for lunch which was lovely and the staff were very nice too, food was fab but again the cleanlyness of the floors and walls were not great. Dinner in hobsons bar was lovely the staff were lovely too deffo recommend it. Breakfast was great too catering for everyone. I think that the little things including the cleanliness have terribly been missed and for the amount of money we paid to stay in that room you would of thought it would be high spec. We would go back again but would be asking for a clean room,

Room Tip: the hotel is very quiet so any room will be great as long as its clean

“Great Weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Husband and I stayed for 3 nights in a signature room which was spotless and tastefully decorated. Room smaller than I thought from website but certainly adequate. Had fridge and a safe, nice bathrobes and a very comfy bed. Room very warm which we needed as we were there for the coldest weekend and lots of snow!! Lovely airbath, needed following the long walks around the lovely estate. All staff friendly and helpful. Ate in Hobsons Bar and Terrace restaurant, both meals were excellent and well presented. We visited the Wainrights Pub, a very short walk up the main road, Food excellent, very warm and welcoming atmosphere and certainly lovely round the log fire watching the snow falling. The pub also owned by the estate and you can charge any food and drinks to your room. The estate is a great base for exploring the many walks round the area, Reception staff will give you folders full of walks you can go on. We locked up the car on arrival and never used it again until we had to dig it out of the snow on checkout!! but walked miles.
If you like spa therapies then make use of the facilites, after a long day walking I had the hot stones massage and a facial, FANTASTIC. My therapist was Nikki, she was very professional, pleasant and knowlegeable.
Will certainly return for another trip and would recommend it to anyone who likes to "get away from it all"

“What a treat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

My friend and I had a spa day at the Langdale Hotel with an overnight stay.
The treatment was so relaxing, soothing. The spa staff were so professional and respectful. The room over looking the beck was delightful, lovely and warm on such a cold night! The bathroom with its warm floor, soft fluffy towels and Elemis products really added to the treat!
But the food was enchanting, I would pay twice the price for the same meal in Manchester, the service was attentive but not in your face! We are already planning a return visit with our husbands.

“Quiet valley setting, beautiful room!”

Veggie hubby and I stayed for two nights and had booked in a signature room for £99 B&B - but were able to upgrade to a riverside room for an extra £20 per night. This was worth every penny as it had a great balcony and views across the river . The room was spotless, very warm and well appointed. The estate is located in Langdale valley, with great walks on the doorstep.
The estate has 3 restaurants but we ate at Purdey's each night as the others were very quiet and lacked atmosphere. The food was of a good standard and the front of house staff were a credit to the company (especially Keith!). The breakfasts were particularly memorable, given they were served buffet style, not usually a favourite of mine. Re the food-although quality was good there were number of items listed on the menu which did not appear on the plate. For example my scallop dish should have included mussels, these were replaced by shrimps and cockles. Still delicious mind you!

We would certainly consider returning - based mainly on the great walking options and the good standard of food. I would like to see the estate in summer rather than in deepest winter!

Room Tip: Upgrade to a riverside room!
