“Excellent Quiet Location for Busy Ambleside”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Stayed 3 nights over New Year. Room was small but had everthing we needed, Bathroom was beautifully clean. Breakfast was excellent and had good choices. View from breakfast room window was outstanding, looking over the fells. Plenty of room to park which is good in Ambleside. Paul and Sharon were charming hosts and made us feel very welcome. It is an excellent place for couples who like to be just out of the centre of Ambleside but close enough to wander in (takes 5-10 mins). Lovely and quiet at night as no passing traffic. Could not reccommend Wynford enough to people looking to stay there. Hope to be back to Ambleside for next New Year.

“Everything just fab!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

We stayed here Friday/Sat night. Sharon recommended restaurants and we booked for Frid/Sat nights. So glad we did as Ambleside is just so popular. Left work Friday stressed and worn out and from the minute we arrived at tranquil Wynford my body relaxed. The room was lovely and both Sharon and Paul made us feel welcome., We quickly bathed and took the gorgeous walk down the lane into town. We had aperitifs in the Golden Rule in front of a roaring fire then a superb meal at Matthews Bistro.Breakfast was so delicious, sauasage and black pudding very high quality. Watching a woodpecker on the bird table was great. Walked all day Saturday over Lough Rigg to Grasmere and back - love lunch at Tweedies Bar in Grasmere and beer tasting very good. Would definitely saty here again but off to live in NZ again in Jan so will not be back for a while.

“Looking forward to returning!”

From the moment we arrived our weekend break was fabulous. We were made very welcome by Paul and Sharon, always ready with advice when sought, be it about restaurants, pubs, walks or weather. The breakfast was excellent, the room was nicely decorated and spotless, the bathroom was great - even a bath to soak in after our fell walks!

We found the Guest House to be very well positioned, in a quiet location, but less than 10 minutes into the town and also very handy for the hills. We have already booked our next visit.

“the only bad part is coming home”

We love visiting the Lakes and Ambleside is normally where we set up base camp. This weekend my wife and I wanted to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary by spending 2 nights away and only one place sprung to mind 'Ambleside'.
I rang the place we normally stay only to find they were full 'oh no!!', but we need not have worried as this is where we discovered the Wynford.... From the initial phone call to book I felt like we were Sharon (aka the Boss) and Paul's (aka Sharon's boss) most valued repeat customers.
The Wynford is a lovely 3 bedroom guest house situated just 5 minutes walk away from Ambleside centre with fantastic views of the fells from every room (none better than the breakfast room). Our bedroom was perfect for us with a really comfy double bed, big ensuite bathroom and TV for the Rugby World Cup!!.. The whole house is really clean and fresh and the owners have added lots of little extras to make you feel welcome and important from the shoe polish in the rooms to the umbrellas in the porch or even the torches for walking down the path in the evening to the binoculars in the breakfast room to get even more from the already fantastic views..

For breakfast there is a selection of cereals, yoghurts, fruit and jams all followed by a tasty and hearty full English (enough to get you through any amount of walking or exercise you will be embarking on for the day) with all the toast and coffee you can get through..

The owners really seemed to care about how we were and if there was anything else we needed.

We have already booked to go back in the next couple of months..

“A relaxing break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

Probably the best way to gauge if you have enjoyed a stay at a guest house is to ponder the possibility of you staying there again. The truth is that if we revisited Ambleside, then we would definitely try and book 'Wynford'.

It is in a quite location down a narrow road and the views are spectacular, even though the weather wasn't too great when we stayed. Our room was comfortable, clean and quiet and our hosts were helpful, friendly and genuine. The breakfast was very good and the service spot on.
If I had to be negative about one thing it would be the fact that the 'Wynford' is a bit of a climb from Ambleside centre so may not be suitable for anyone that struggles walking. That is a minor niggle really but needs mentioning.

There is free internet access, parking on the grounds of the guest house and just the one flight of stairs to negotiate if you are staying above ground level. It wasn't quite the cheapest guest house that we looked at but we have no trouble in recommending this charming and peaceful retreat.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 2 and had a very nice view fo the fells in the distance.
