“Brilliant Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We have just returned from a two night stay at the Wateredge Inn,this was a family break to celebrate my wifes 50th birthday. This was our first stay here n it wont be the last !,our room (room 5 ) overlooked the lake, very clean n spacious and had everything you could want.I cannot fault the bar, lounge and restaurant areas, the open fires were very cosy and welcoming on a cold and wet winters day.The breakfast was the best we had for many years, nothing was to much trouble for the two waitresses who looked after us,we all ate in the restaurant on the 2nd night and had a great meal,we were well looked after but beware the portion are huge !! To sum things up this a brilliant hotel, with great staff throughout, great clean rooms, great food and a relaxing atmosphere, what more do you want from a hotel ? will we go back ? YES !

Room Tip: Pay a little more and stay in a spacious double

“Great Refuge in Foul Weather”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

Stayed here in mid-December for two nights. Accommodation good, comfortable and clean, with all that I needed. Breakfast excellent and dinner equally good. Real ales in excellent condition. Staff friendly and helpful. Location by the lake and access to the rest of the Lake District makes this a good choice for a few nights or for longer.

“Great Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

Stayed here several times now and always found the Wateredge to be great value. All the staff are amazingly friendly and polite and always provide excellent service. Breakfast has always been good but we found it to be even better than previous times (local produce, tasty and lots of it) we also ate here a couple of evenings and can recommend the "Wateredge Shepherds Pie" served with crusty bread and red cabbage! Very yummy!!! Festive menu was also good value. All areas of the inn are extremely clean and our rooms were serviced daily, lovely complimentary toiletries provided including a "grapefriut and lemongrass" shower gel which smells gorgeous!!Roaring log fire, mulled wine and a fantastic view all add up to a great place to stay

Room Tip: Worth paying that little bit more for a room with lake view.

“Fantastic Meal in a lovely setting with great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2011

We came over to the lakes looking for a good quality meal , not too expensive with good choice and service in a lovely setting.
We certainly found a gem at the Wateredge Inn at Ambleside.
We were there when England was playing a friendly against Spain but we couldnt hear anything from the TV or the people watching to spoil the atmosphere and the meal.
We had the Pumpkin and Butternut squash soup, my partner followed with the Large haddock whilst I had the Gammon. We finished with the Wateredge Mess which is a take on the Eton Mess.
All in all we spent around £45.
Service was ecellent , courteous and quick !
The portions were huge and actually said so to the waitress. She just laughed and asked if we wanted coffee or tea to finish.
If there are any issues it was the heat from the fire in the restaurant, as this was overpowering and when we mentioned it to the waitress, she turned it down (Gas) and opened the door to allow air to circulate.
I asked the barman for a recommendation for real ale and he advised of "Aviator". It was a little flat but may have something to do with having a lemonade top ,which I had asked for.
Minor gripes in what was a lovely meal with good quality ingredients.

“Lovely location - decent gammon steak!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

We stopped at the Wateredge Inn for a drink and sat outside to enjoy the view before deciding to go in and eat. First stop the bar - we were kept waiting until the residents had been served - including two who strolled up after us! Not very impressed at that point but presumed that staff had orders to prioritise residents over the passing trade. The restaurant was very busy and noise levels were high. You had to find your own table and, although the staff were pleasant and efficient, it would have been helpful if someone had pointed us in the right direction since it wasn’t immediately obvious which ones had been reserved. Ok, moan over! We both chose the gammon steak which was served on a huge plate with thick chips, eggs, peas and salad leaves - and we shared a bowl of onion rings - delicious and good value for money - recommended!
