My Husband and I returned yet again for a fabulous stay at Riverside thanks to the wonderful surprise that our brilliant Son and Daughter In-law (Carl & Helen) arranged for us to celebrate our 60th Birthdays this month.They also came with us and we had a great time together. They made it even more special by booking the 4 poster bedroom for us ... Which reduced me to tears because it was so beautiful.
David and Brenda were excellent hosts as usual - Riverside is always clean and welcoming with a lovely homely feeling ... Ideal location for the town and lovely walks. Thanks again Brenda and Dave ... Hope to see you both soon ... Lin & Des x

We returned to Riverside early in December for my birthday treat. Once again everything was perfect. Dave and Brenda are the most lovely, kind and caring couple who deserve every ounce of praise that is given to them. We arrived on a very wet Friday evening to a hotel with a roaring log fire and fairy lights all around, Our bedroom was cosy, snug and so welcoming. Breakfast the next morning was simply gorgeous and sitting at the window watching the birds and squirrels made it enchanting. It is not easy to maintain a high standard but Brenda and Dave do it with ease. If you want a good location, scrumptious food and a spotless, homely and friendly hotel then go to the Riverside.

The location and standard of accommodation are excellent and are matched only by the hosts David and Brenda who make you feel very welcome.
Very worthy of all the comments and awards.

We have also used and will continue to book the cottage next door, Gilbertscar, which is the best cottage we have ever stayed in in the lakes. We'll only use somewhere else if there is no availability here!

David and Brenda really have turned the business of hospitality into an art-form at this small but charming hotel. The attention to detail is amazing; a printout from the internet of the local weather as well as the national news at your place at breakfast every morning, and bird books on the window sill in the breakfast room if you are curious about the many specimens that gather at the perfectly placed tables outside the window. The breakfast is delicous and all fresh; with freshly made home-made bread and delicious localy made jam introuduced to your personaly by your host; and fruit smothies as an alternative to the normal orange juice. The service is friendly and thoughtful without ever being obtrusive. The standard and character of the rooms is almost crazily luxurious for the price (but please don't put them up!). Believe the reviews - this place deserves them. A little further out of Ambleside than other establishments maybe, but it is a delightful amble (sorry!) along the river into the centre, and anyway, after your walk up in the hills you will so thankful to return to the comfort of this delightful place you won't want to leave its warmth to venture into the village anyway..
