“Like an oasis”

Snow falling, roads and sadly my car not coping. One call to the hotel and out came Steve with a 4x4 to pull me up the bank to the 'oasis' called 'The Drunken Duck'.Could anyone have bettered such a romantic start to a weekend. Our party were 'snowed in' but no complainers as we could not have been made to feel more welcome, the staff were simply amazing, people being ferried in and out with such ease as all roads were only passable with care. All rooms beautifully warm, bar fully stocked, coal/log fire and high quality food to suit any palate. The walks down snow laden treelined lanes was just picture postcard stuff. The duck is both timeless and breathless in any season but winter brings it into it's own. I could write all day about being marooned at The Duck-FABULOUS!!! Thanks to all the staff, from car towers, gritters, bar, rest, housekeeping and management.

Room Tip: All are quite quaint but compact, just ask if you need more space

“Another wonderful stay!”

We stay at the Duck at least once per year so yes, I admit I am biased! However, we keep going back as they never fail to deliver excellent service, food, ambiance and value for money. I could go on and on but I promise to keep this brief. What are you looking for when you stay at a Lakes Inn? Well for my money the Duck ticks all my boxes, the customer service, the food, the beer, the rooms, everything is faultless, and yes we will be back.
Special mention to Joanne who has been serving us breakfast for some years now. Always pleasant, nothing is too much trouble and always asks us how we have been and when we are coming back! Its not rocket science, look after your customers like Joanne does and they will come back as we will be in August. Cant wait!

“fantastic winter Sunday package”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Stayed at the Duck last night, and it was superb. Last time we went it was our honeymoon and we stayed in the Garden Room, which was lovely. This time was a winter Sunday package. Lunch, afternoon tea (couldn't fit it in!), three course a la carte dinner, tea/coffee and paper brought to room, full breakfast AND a packed lunch to take away, plus access to the spa at Langdale, 10 mins drive away. All that with a standard room (bottled water and squashy flapjack provided), for £195.
The evening menu is very good, my roast and confit pheasant was the best main course I've had in a long time, and I almost had an out-of-body experience with the honey parfait with whiskey jelly and dark chocolate sorbet. Truly outstanding.
Service is very pleasant and professional, particularly at the bar, which has a roaring fire, four handpumps of their own beers, continental draught beers and a very good winelist.
Also, the view from the front of the inn, across to Ambleside and the hills, is truly spectacular on a crisp, clear winter day.
What's not to love?!

Room Tip: Standard rooms are quite small, as they are above the inn. The rooms in Water Barnetts, at the back...

“Weekend stay at The Drunken Duck Inn, Ambleside”

This is a wonderfully warm and cosy Inn ina most beautiful part of the Lake District. Bedrooms are clean and comfortable and service is warm and friendly. The restaurant serves excellent food in either the main restaurant itself, or in the cosy and intimate bar. The associated micro-brewery results in a great range of beers. Lots of things to do close by, but don't miss a stroll around Tarn Hows: fabulous! Is a touch pricey but still a fantastic place to visit.

“Faultless”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Last minute treat to blow away those January blues. We had stayed twice before first in a standard room, then superior and now deluxe. The room was perfect with countryside views. Everything was immaculate. The afternnon tea served in the room was delicious. The staff were more than helpful and avoid any inverted snootiness which characterises many top end hotels. Evening meals of excellent cod loin and halibut finished the day off perfectly.

Everyone should take time out to look at the immaculate gardens and lake - a spiritual home where some wild life activity is a constant feature.

We will treat ourselves again in the very near future.

Room Tip: All good. Get the best you can afford. The difference in price is worth it.
