“Do not judge by looks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Hi stayed in the Churchill Inn from Friday 27th jan to Monday 30th Jan,there was eight of us four couples,we arriaved by minibus and it would not fit in car park entrance we were directed and escorted by a member of staff to there overflow car-park,yes the check in is in the bar so what they were efficient and polite as io said you are in a bar and at no time were we disiturbed by noise or anything else the rooms are all in good condition along with the bathrooms,it is central for all amaenities, none of my party found any problems during our stay, the breakfast was good and plentifukk witha great service,we will have no hesitation in staying there again,it is a pub with good atmosphere, food and beers.

Room Tip: Do not read into all previous reports some people just cannot be pleased

“Very disappointed.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Positives:
Great central location.
Presentable, clean (basic) room.
Decent breakfast.

Negatives:
Car park is far too small. Entrance is very narrow.
Staff were miserable and unhelpful and at times rude. The young girl who 'dealt' with our check-in had a real attitude.
The pub seemed rowdy and unwelcoming - the only bar in Ambleside that had a bouncer on the door.
Strong bleach smell.
Music was loud until around 12:00 - so if you are intending on having an early night, forget it.

The Churchill Inn is promoted as an up market establishment and from the pictures looks great, but in the flesh its a tired and basic hotel that seems to be run by people that just can't be bothered. Shame.

“car park”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Stayed at Chuchills for two nights 20/21 Jan.
Arived on the Friday night to be told Friday is karaoke night and it would go on till between 12-1am. A little man behind the bar was takeing the mickey pretending to put ear plugs in.
When asked who he was I was told he was the bouncer for the night.
I checked on the Monday before that we were on the back but on going to our rom we were on the main road dont exspect to get any sleep on a Friday due to karaoke and main road.

If you need your car duering your stay dont put it in the car park as most likely you will be blocked in all weekend. You are told to block people in but you cannot help it.
Sombody scuffed my bumper and wing as there is just no room unless every body moves there cars at the same time. Room clean and tidey.

Room Tip: Top floor if you wat any sleep

“Lack of TLC”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

I visited The Churchill for Lunch on 17th December with my wife. There were two members of staff on duty who did not see us so we sat at a table in the Restaurant. After waiting 10 minutes and not seeing anyone, I went to the bar to place a Lunch order. We were the only ones there and the meal took 20 minutes to arrive. There was no warmth with the waitress and the meal was plonked on the table. We never saw another member of staff. However, the meal was very nice and enjoyable.
Afterwards, I made a visit to the toilets and found that the two cubicles had no locks on the doors which made me feel very uncomfortable. I brought this to the attention of the female member of staff when she came off her mobile phone and 'it was not her problem' and I got the feeling the problem would not be attended to..
We will definately not be calling there again due to the staff which is a shame as the meal was nice and good value for money.

“nice and warm”

Our second stay here, and just as enjoyable as the 1st.
Yes, car park is tight, but at least it has one! We were on the top floor, so no noise probs for us, and the stairs not too much of a prob for a 50+ year old couple.
Good beers in the bar below, had a couple while I watched the football.
The room was clean and warm, despite it being below freezing outside, and there was plenty of hot water for a bath.
Breakfast was good, trad full English, with lots toast and tea/coffee.
Will def stay here again next year.
