My boyfriend and I spent a couple of nights at the Victoria Guest House over the Easter weekend. We had a lovely stay - it was very homely, and the owners were very welcoming, plus it was spotlessly clean and in a great location. That said, there were a couple of things about our stay that could have been improved upon, and that other would-be travellers should take note of...
- We stayed in the Floral room, which on the booking site was described as having a shower ensuite and private WC. We assumed this would mean an ensuite bathroom - however, it was actually just a shower and a sink actually in the corner of the room. The shower had a curtain, but other than that it was right there in the room. Not a problem really if you're with your partner, but friends staying together might find this a little difficult! Also, the loo was not in our room but was down the hall. To be honest this was a bit of a pain (we expected to have one in our room).
- Unfortunately, the mattress we had in this room was a bit on the lumpy side too. The guest house is in a lovely quiet location, so we did sleep pretty well, but if you like your mattress to be ultra-comfy, be warned!
In fairness, when we were chatting to the owners before we left, they mentioned that the room we had stayed in was fine for one night but not really ideal for longer stays. It was very small (which we didn't mind at all, but other people might) and the ensuite/mattress issues were a bit of a disappointment. From what they said however, there were other more spacious rooms that might have been better.
So, in summary - a lovely friendly little guest house, that's in a lovely quiet location and is spotlessly clean. Breakfast was wonderful and we were really made to feel at home. However, if you're staying for more than one night, request one of the bigger rooms rather than the Floral room where we stayed.
