“Great stop-over.”

We booked ourselves the Saturday morning ferry, so rather than an early start from the Midlands, we booked this place and gave it a go.

We were perhaps lucky to get an on-street parking space right outside the door. The welcome was warm and we were shown to our room which was perhaps larger than i had imagined, with a decent sized en-suite bathroom too. The only thing that stood out was that the hair drier did not work - well it did, but the vent was not connected to the pipe. I found it funny, but my girlfriend was not so impressed. Overall it was clean and tidy and just the job, being 5mins from either the Eastern or Western docks. I think we'd stay here again.

The one thing that did persuade us to book it was the CAMRA-rated pub in the cellar of the building. It was a busy place with some lovely beer, and I undertand there is also a good selection of malts....

“Great Little Place to Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2007

Quirky little guest house with Restruant and Cellar Real Ale & Wine bar. You would never know it was there just walking past. Doesn't look like a pub. Very nice Ales from around the country. They had "Fog on the Tyne", Nelsons Blood 6% and their "own". Did have a little headache next day but well worth it. Lovely cosy bar nice double room with v.good tea/coffee facilities (no skimping there!) Quality towels. The only critism if you had to find one was the TV was a bit dated and poor picture quality. I would certainly recommend and will use it again next time en-route to France

  • Liked — Quality and Detail, but most of all THE BEER !
  • Disliked — tv

“Nice B&B”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2007

Blakes of Dover has a great location and a very friendly staff. We arrived early, but the staff greeted us and allowed us to leave our bag. The B&B is just down the hill from the castle and close to some nice restaurants for dinner if you choose not to eat there. The room was a little bit dated, and small, but adequate. We had a slight problem with some seagulls congregating on a building not too far outside our window...made for a sleepless night. The breakfast was great, served by friendly staff. This was the last room in Dover as we decided last minute on taking the trip.

“The best little hotel in Dover!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2006

Blakes was exactly as described. It's a small hotel with an associated pub that has a fabulous beer and wine selection and wonderful food. Our hosts, Peter and Kathryn, were a delight -- very personable and helpful. The only smoking allowed on premises is outside on the patio. Our room was mostly filled up with the bed, but it had all the amenities and was quite comfortable. The bathroom was large with an excellent shower. To top it all off, the price was a bargain, particularly by British standards. We would absolutely stay here again.
