We planned a last minute trip and I found this place through the Canterbury tourism website. I booked on the Thursday for Saturday night and the website said they would send me a confirmation email within 24 hours (which should have been Friday morning). I got an email from the website which I didn't read properly and took as confirmation of the booking (well, on the website it had said rooms were available that night so I wasn't too concerned). BUT, when we arrived at 1pm the guy who answered the door said there had been a problem with the booking. Apparently the card I had given details for had declined (impossible as there was over 1000 pounds in the account), and anyway there weren't any rooms! He said the owner had told him to tell us all this. I think it is shocking that the owner would not contact us to let us know there were no rooms - just wait for us to turn up! Luckily there had been a cancellation at the 3rd B&B he rang so we got a room but I don't know what would have happened otherwise.

We had three nights at the Alexandra house, which was able to accomdate us at the last minute without any hassles. We had to change rooms after the first night, but they made it very easy. We enjoyed our stay there for many reasons. The location is great; just outside the west gate, so easy access. Off the main road so the street was very quiet. The house includes off-street parking which we appreciated, and you get your own key to come and go. Breakfast was efficient and well-prepared, with the variety you would expect at a good B&B. I found the beds a bit (well, may more than a bit) soft for my taste, so if you have a back that requires a firm bed, take note. Also, I really appreciated the free wireless internet access, but be aware that getting a good signal can be a problem. Upstairs in rooms 2 and 3 it's almost impossible. Downstairs is somewhat better, but not always reliable. Anyway, it's free, so that's a plus.

The Alexandra House is situated only a few minutes from the city centre, so it is excellent for exploring the beautiful historic town of Canterbury and it is also good for those who don't have a car. The rooms are clean and spacious. The only negative point is the bathroom because it is very small, but as it was very clean it was not such a huge problem. The breakfast was fantastic. We could choose from a large range of options and it was very delicious. Everybody was very friendly and all in all, we had a great stay at this B&B!

The manager was great, a really friendly and helpful guy. The rooms are very smart, clean and tidy. There was a good choice to order from on the breakfast menu that tasted great and you could also go up and help your self to cereals and juices. It's about a 10 minute walk from a Canterbury city centre.
