“Brilliant stay in a great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012 via mobile

My partner and I stayed for the weekend for our 3rd Anniversary recently to explore some of the beautiful sights in Kent. We were able to park easily right outside the guesthouse then was greeted by the owner who was very polite and welcoming. She gave us some good tips of where to go in the area and then showed us to our room. We stayed in a doublebed room with ensuite which was very clean and presentable-quite literally jumped into bed after a long journey. We slept well and had a lovely cooked breakfast all prepared to order in the morning. There was also a nice selection of fruit juices and healthy alternatives to choose from too. We explored the town and some of the woodlands that day. On return we visited some of the local pubs in the evening to which were walking distance from th guest house-we had our own to come and go as we please so not to disturb anyone. Definitely recommend this guesthouse you won't be disappointed. The two negative reviews put me off initially but so glad we went! Fantastic.

“Lovely nights stay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We needed a b&b near to city centre for overnight stay, to celebrate our anniversary. We had been passed on many occasions, but had not stayed.Vicky our host, was helpful, from booking to departure. The room was lovely.Vicky had remembered me mentioning our anniversary, and upgraded us for free.It was easy to find,[contrary to comment made by another user of this site.]All beverages were provided, including bickies and mineral water. The walk into the city was easy, and access to the hotel on return was no problem, with our own front door key.Bed was comfortable, bathroom facilities very good.Breakfast was great.Tasety and well presented. All in all a great atmosphere. We look forward to returning in the near future, when we go to the Marlowe theatre. Thanks again Vicky, from both of us.

“deserves the 5 star rating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

The previous review of this property is, in my view extremely unfair. I found Yorke Lodge a lovely place to stay Vicky was really helpful. Place is spotlessly clean in a very nice area and not far from the lovely town centre. Yorke Lodge is a lovely house with plenty of character I an a solo traveller and booked a single room but Vicky gave me a really nice junior double room. I stayed 3 nights and would def stay there again.

“Basic facilities and where was the Customer Service?!”

Where to start?! Do not stay her. I regularly stay in Bed and Breakfasts and have paid less and got a lot better than the facilities and service that was provided at this Bed and Breakfast.

Generally unhelpful host - Difficult to find albeit that it was necessary to chase her down for a number of matters as information not provided either in room or on arrival (for exampled wireless internet password).

Advised Ironing Board too cumbersome to use in bedroom so had to do ironing in the dining room by the entrance (no TV, no partner, assumed to be member of staff, not entirely pleasant).

Breakfast was terrible - Cereal selection was poor (Weetabix, Bran Flakes & Muesli). No vegetarian alternative on the cooked breakfast albeit that the host was advised of our vegetarian status on arrival (How hard is it to have some veggie sausages in the freezer!). And the portions on the cooked breakfast were not at all friendly.

Host excelled herself at the breakfast table - refused to take our order because "not ready to take orders" then immediately turned around to take order from another table to then fail to return to take our order from us for a further 15 minutes. One of the mornings our family were in a particularly upbeat mood and the host expressly went out of her way to give us some terrible news (that we did not need to hear) closely followed by her judgmental views on the news, if you ask me... (well we didn't so keep them to yourself). What a fantastic mood killer!

The rooms were pretty basic, standard size beds (our "double bed" was two small singles pushed together) and limited space in the rooms for much else beyond the bed.

The bed and breakfast was also next to a busy main road so if you opened your window for fresh air then it was very noisy in the rooms.

I am astounded this place has any kind of star rating, I don't understand how it has the reviews detailed above, it is not good value for money and I would urge people to consider staying elsewhere.

“"5-star luxury, lovely owner AND dog-friendly"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

We were visiting friends in Canterbury and wanted to stay somewhere close to the centre, but also needed somewhere which would accept our dog. This B&B is in an excellent location, 10mins walk from the centre of Canterbury and is very deserving of its AA 5-star rating and other accolades. It's spotlessly clean despite being dog-friendly, and is a beautiful building with lots of interesting memorabilia dotted around. The owner Vicky makes you feel extremely welcome, and is very friendly without being overbearing. Our dog Dotty had a fab time meeting Vicky's dog Fleur. Breakfast was lovely, and served promptly each day. We stayed in a superior room at the back of the house on the first floor. The room was very nice, and the bed was extremely comfortable.
Highly recommended - and as an aside, the marmalade at breakfast is homemade (by a former guest) and is excellent!

Room Tip: Stayed in a superior room - well worth the extra money for the four poster bed and larger room.
