Full marks to the Thanington - the rooms were very comfortable (ours had a bathroom bigger than most other hotel rooms we've stayed in!), the staff extremely helpful (their restaurant guide to the city proved very useful), the location good (a 15 minute walk into town), and the breakfast good. Off-street parking is available (although a bit tight) - but not all central hotels offer this. The only small criticism is the lack of a decent cup of decaf coffee, but alas that is true of 90% of UK hotels! Fully recommended.

I booked 2 rooms at the Thanington for a 2 night break with friends. We were upgraded to a 'superior' room and it was disgusting. The net curtains were frayed and the bathroom was filthy. The room was in need of a total refurbishment. The owner did refund half the bill for all of us because on top of everything else we were kept awake by lads in the room above 'partying' till 4am on the 2nd night (not much better on the night)

Stayed Friday night - room was compact but very clean and tidy and lovely bathroom.
Only a 15 minute walk to the centre so well placed.
We paid £90 for a twin room including breakfast and felt this was a fair rate.
The pool was an added bonus and the courtyard garden lovely to sit in at the end of the day.
Breakfast was really good - fantastic choice on the buffet of fruits and yoghurts, cereals etc.
Staff were very friendly and pleasant.

The room in the extension at the back was basic, but large enough, and quiet enough to get a good night's sleep. Room was warm and beds comfy. The staff were all efficient and very friendly and helpful.
The courtyard garden was pretty and the pool a lovely bonus. We didn't mind the walk into the Centre, as we got free safe parking at the hotel. Road into town is very busy at rush hour, but it is easy to get to the ring roads from the location. Canterbury is one of my favourite places and there is always plenty to see and do, especially great cocktail places and restaurants with lots of character.
