“Another good visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

I probably stay at this hotel every few months for work and have experienced a great many of the rooms, some good, some not so great. Assuming you want to experience the Canterbury night-life, it has the best location of any other hotel - but it can be a little noisy late, especially at the back near to the local bar/clubs. The rooms can be very snug with furniture and seating near absent. Free wifi is good but can only have one device connected at a time.
The staff are very polite and willing to help, and the front bar is a great place to relax after a day at work. The food is also very good in the restaurant and for breakfast.

Room Tip: Don's stay around the back of the hotel

“Lovely spacious room in the city centre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

This was our first stay at the ABode, Canterbury, although we have been to Canterbury many times in the past. We got a good last minute discount on the room and although we had the cheapest rate room, it was very spacious with all the facilities you would expect. The shower was lovely - very powerful and refreshing.
The only downside was the lack of parking - always an issue for a city centre hotel but the hotel car park is on a first come first served basis. When we arrived in the afternoon this was already full but the helpful receptionist provided a map and a £5 for 24hours parking permit to park in a variety of surface car parks within 5-10 minute walk of the hotel and offered to get a member of staff to walk to our temporary parking spot and collect our bags.
We did enjoy a lovely couple of cocktails in the champagne bar overlooking the high street before heading into town for the evening. All in all a great stay and we would definitely visit both this other hotels in the ABode chain in the future

“Lovely hotel in a central location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Have stayed several times at the Abode, staff always very friendly, rooms pleasant enough, two nice lounges for reading in, one with a bar. Great central Canterbury location.
However, if you are eating in the Michael Caines Restaurant in the hotel just be aware that the portions can be miniscule, his restaurant around the corner is better if you actually want to be well fed.

“Another good stay at the Abode but not perfect.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

This was our (my wife and I) third stay at the Abode Canterbury and it remains to have lots to recommend it.

The perfect city centre location means short walking (staggering) distance for any of the shops, restaurants or pubs you many be visiting during your stay. Its so handy you can pop back with your shopping half way through the day, rest your feet and emerge fresh for another splurge.

We've never made use of the hotel car park as we know Canterbury quite well and know a couple of space not far away and avoid paying. Although next time we'll seek it out and test our Sat Nav to the limit!

We've always had the room grade one up from the bottom one which gives a little more space. The rooms are always well appointed, clean comfortable and modern. They do try and tease you with a small basket of goodies including jelly beans, Green & Blacks Chocolates and Burts Crisps etc. All very nice stuff but this is only included in the higher grade room which would cost another £25 a night. That's a lot of crisps & chocolate!

We've never eaten at the restaurant except for breakfast which is always very good (traditional, locally sourced) and well served.

Only complaint this time was that our bedroom seemed to be located directly below some kind of cleaning storage room and we were awoken quite early on the Sunday morning by constant opening and closing of sliding doors. Not an ideal start to the day after a boozy night.

When we mentioned this after breakfast the staff were apologetic but insisted there was nothing above us. In the end they offered a small but acceptable partial discount which meant breakfast for both of us was free and promised we wouldn't put in the same room again. This was fine by me.

We were then sent a special offer (for previous customers) via email just before Christmas offering a one night DB&B for £99 early in 2012 and have snapped this up as it represent an almost 50% saving on the full price. Kids will be with the grandparents for the W/E so can't wait!

Room Tip: Avoid being placed to close to lift doors as you might get woken up by revellers coming after a good...

“A great stay at this lovely hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We have just spent two nights at this lovely hotel. We needed a break following a recent bereavement and this provided just what we needed. The reception staff greeted us on every occasion with smiles and friendliness, as did all the other staff. We had an inclusive package. The breakfasts were fabulous. Indeed the room at the front of the hotel turned out to be noisy, but we were warned of this on checking in. However we asked if we could move for the second night and were given a larger room with twin beds and a huge bathroom. It was relaxing on a wet and windy day to sit in the champagne bar and enjoy excellent coffee and hot chocolate. No champagne on this occasion unfortunately. We were sorry to leave this lovely hotel.

Room Tip: Get the best you can afford.
