“We want to go back already..”

I was really looking forward to our weekend away at the Arthouse and I was not to be disappointed. What a find… a lovely bolthole full of eclectic art and features throughout – we felt at home straightaway. We loved our spacious bedroom with comfortable bed – a perfect night’s sleep. The laid back feel was perfect for our little break. It is really nice to have the place to yourself, although there is another bedroom we did not even meet the other guests until breakfast. We had use of a kitchen, dining room and lounge (perfect for relaxing after exploring Canterbury). Breakfast the next day was very tasty – croissants, fresh bread with all manner of jams and spreads and a very impressive range of teas. Again, it was relaxed and laid out ready for when we were up and awake.

The Arthouse is a short walk into the hub of Canterbury and although it was November we were able to squeeze in a riverside boat tour and enjoy the ride before a look around the exquisite Cathedral at dusk. The crypt was unbelievable. We the enjoyed a tasty dinner at Café Mauresque (Morroccan/Moorish fare) – I recommend the Lamb Shank Tagine – divine! The next day we set out to take advantage of the sunny weather. We set off down the road (10 miles or so) to Whitstable to sample the oysters and sea air.

We have already been thinking about when we come back, so hope to see the Arthouse and its hosts very soon. This is a lovely set–up and a real asset to Canterbury.

“Great location, friendly, helpful hosts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

We enjoyed our 4-night stay at the Arthouse B&B. The location is ideal for walking rambles in and around Canterbury. Our room was away from the street and very quiet. We were pleased with the flexibility and options offered for breakfast. Our hosts provided quality continental breakfast foods, including juice, coffee, tea, organic granola, good breads, cheese, and yogurt. (Eggs and bacon would have been too heavy for us.) The absence of a specific time span for breakfast service gave us freedom to sleep in and recover from jet-lag, rather than meet someone else's schedule. Coming from the US, we appreciated that. Our hosts, Anna & John, were friendly and accommodating without hovering or intruding. We will definitely consider staying here again should the occasion arise for another visit to Canterbury.

Room Tip: Our private bath was down a very short hallway. The super-duper hairdryer could use a longer cord.

Arthouse did not disappoint on any level (all 3 levels in fact!). Stylish, quirky, amusing, warm, comfortable and SO much nicer than any other B&B we've ever been to. The art all over the house is a joy and our hosts eclectic collection of all things decorative (including their own work) could have kept me amused for far longer. Other reviewers have covered off the domestic details well, so I won't revisit them apart from to add that the flexible breakfast, sense of freedom and laid-back trust suited us perfectly. All of these factors together with immense warmth from Anna & John makes this B&B a veritable gem.

“'A must place to stay!'”

Our first visit to Canterbury and a most memourable one. A 3 night stay in the Garden Escape room with en-suite shower. Hosts Anna and John are wonderfully down to earth and made us feel very welcome. Breakfast was a relaxed affair as you can help yourself to an array of cereals, breads, crossiants and preserves etc. Having off road parking on the property was a bonus as we could leave the car in safety and do sight seeing on foot. The Hosts suggestions on places to eat were helpful as our first meal was probably the best Mexican meal we'd had in this country! Cafe Des Amies, situated just before you reach the Westgate entrance to the city. There are so many positive reasons to choose to stay at the ArtHouse. If you're looking for something different to the usual B+B then this is definately the place to lay your head.
