I was really looking forward to our weekend away at the Arthouse and I was not to be disappointed. What a find… a lovely bolthole full of eclectic art and features throughout – we felt at home straightaway. We loved our spacious bedroom with comfortable bed – a perfect night’s sleep. The laid back feel was perfect for our little break. It is really nice to have the place to yourself, although there is another bedroom we did not even meet the other guests until breakfast. We had use of a kitchen, dining room and lounge (perfect for relaxing after exploring Canterbury). Breakfast the next day was very tasty – croissants, fresh bread with all manner of jams and spreads and a very impressive range of teas. Again, it was relaxed and laid out ready for when we were up and awake.
The Arthouse is a short walk into the hub of Canterbury and although it was November we were able to squeeze in a riverside boat tour and enjoy the ride before a look around the exquisite Cathedral at dusk. The crypt was unbelievable. We the enjoyed a tasty dinner at Café Mauresque (Morroccan/Moorish fare) – I recommend the Lamb Shank Tagine – divine! The next day we set out to take advantage of the sunny weather. We set off down the road (10 miles or so) to Whitstable to sample the oysters and sea air.
We have already been thinking about when we come back, so hope to see the Arthouse and its hosts very soon. This is a lovely set–up and a real asset to Canterbury.
