If you are searching for a clean and comfortable place to stay in Canterbury look no further than the Coach House and book early to avoid disappointment. With combined ratings of ‘excellent’ and ‘very good’ totaling 98%, guests are delighted to be lucky enough to find a vacancy and the reasons are clear: guesthouses simply do not come any better. Most can impress for one, two or even three days but try accommodating a guest for over three months while still maintaining exceptionally high standards of hospitality and hygiene. In the more than three months that I stayed at the Coach House one would expect that I could “dish the dirt” but there is none to dish – figuratively or otherwise. I was continually greeted with openness, honesty, courtesy and care, attention to my every need and friendliness without obtrusion, while my room was thoroughly cleaned regularly so that the guesthouse’s very high standards of cleanliness could be maintained. I have never seen a place as clean (which one of my daughters believes to be high praise indeed) and as a home-maker, I would love to learn their secrets.
I stayed in three different rooms while there and each has its own delightfully unique, decorative touch and character, while ensuring a sound night’s sleep in very comfortable beds. Wi-Fi is freely available around the clock, which is very generous as most places charge for such a service (e.g. on recent sojourns in the Emirates I had to pay a fairly high hourly rate for Internet access). I fully endorse all the positive statements which have already been made and add examples of the owners’ attention to detail, such as the unsolicited provision of extra duvets, hot chocolate sachets (along with the other refreshments) and ample hours of central heating once the weather became colder. The guesthouse’s location is prime; there is no more conveniently located guesthouse in Canterbury, with everything of importance just a short walk away, including bus stops, taxi ranks, train stations, parks, colleges, banks, shops, restaurants, hairdressing salons, Canterbury Cathedral, the new Marlowe Theatre and a plethora of side streets which never fail to surprise. One such side street is to your left as you exit the Coach House, where you will find a delightful bookshop on the right which just begs to be explored. For students who wish to have their work bound before submitting it the most popular press in town is just behind the Coach House.
Perhaps the highest compliment I can pay the Coach House is that I felt so at-home there that I had to constantly remind myself that I was not in my own home and that I should leave soon. I can highly recommend it and have already booked by next stay there. Now, if only we could copy and paste it to other paces … :-)
