We stayed recently MAy 2007 at the Mansard House/Wheeler Farm just outside Winchester on a reservation chosen by, and booked through the City information office.
While the hostess was kind, the food good, and the room clean, because of several things we did not think it was a good value for the price charged compared to three other South West England B and B locations we stayed at (two of which were also on active farms). Negative things that detract from this property were very loud M3 motorway noise, and a very unkempt front yard. The pictures on some websites show a view from the meadow side, which does not show the drive up and entrance area which has a severely eroded hilly parking area, peeling paint on the house, and 1 foot high weeds in the walk and front yard area. I doubt the front yard space has been mowed this year. Additionally there was a casually fenced large dirt dog pen area also right at the front entrance of the house . They owners also had no maps of the area between Winchester and Windsor other than what looked to be a picture in a 40 year old Encyclopedia- all other B&Bs all had good local maps. They also do not take credit cards and the windows have no screens. The inside entrance hall was also cluttered with laundry being dried, and stacks of personal goods. All of these are appearance items that were better at the other B&Bs.
