“Cheap and handy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Bog-standard accommodation but handily situated on the A34 services so shop and Little Chef onsite. Centre of Winchester only 2/3 miles away.

Our room was fine but bed and fittings showing some signs of wear; only three small pillows too.

The local pub in Sutton Scotney - the Coach & Horses - serves excellent food, has a good selection of beers and is only half a mile away.

Only to be recommended on basis of location and price (£19).

“You get what you pay for...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

Booked a £25 room here on a weekday night and if you just need a clean bed to sleep in and the use of a clean & functioning toilet and shower, this place is fine. Just don't look too closely at anything else...

The hotel is very tired and in need of some TLC, the window frames are rotten and the car park is not a nice place to arrive as a lone female late on a foggy winter night! It feels very desolate indeed. The room and the bathroom were rather shabby, but I slept ok so can't really complain for the price I paid.

The receptionist was friendly and efficient on my arrival and I overheard him politely dealing with another guest's complaint about a hot water issue.

There's a Little Chef and Shell garage next to the Travelodge, which is handy.

“Very tired looking hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

As a previous reviewer suggested, you get what you pay for - this hotel was £70 for 2 nights - I booked as I was running in the Great South Run this weekend. The staff (I only met one person and didnt see a soul after that) were fine and efficient but the hotel needs urgent investment on the decor side - the room was poorly decorated and the tiling/grout in the bathroom was disgusting - I dont see how you can expect the staff to keep such a poorly maintained property clean. Easy parking - bit of a pain gettiing back on the northbound side but thats not the hotel's fault. Wouldnt stay there again to be honest.

“In need of some TLC”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

We only stayed here because of a special offer but I wouldn't stay in a Travelodge again. The room was tired looking, carpet was old and worn, paint work was marked and scuffed and bathroom was grotty. On the upside parking was plentiful and Winchester only 10mins away.

“couldn't complain for price but ready for a refurb”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

We stayed overnight en route to Portsmouth for a ferry.
We paid less than £30 for 4 of us for the room for the night so it is impossible to complain at that price.
We arrived early evening and the staff were efficient and friendly when checking us in.
The hotel is very worn from the reception area looking very tired with scuffed walls, to the corridors having damaged door frames and the paintwork in the rooms being tatty and marked. Having said that it was clean, the bedding was in ok condition, it was quiet and we got a good nights sleep. There was ample parking and it felt relatively secure.
There is an access road which gives a safe walking route to the nearby village ( 10 mins stroll)where there is a very friendly pub( suitable for children) for evening meals. It was a really pleasant walk with good food and nice atmosphere which was welcome as an alternative to the on site Little Chef.
So overall a fairly good experience but the physical condition of the hotel did fall short of standards you would usually see at other similar chain hotels
