Having read the previous reviews after booking I was very concerned as to what I would find at the hotel. OK I agree the building is dated but our room was clean and the receptionist was very helpful. We stayed for two nights paying a total of £60 which seemed to us, very good value.

We arrived to find several disgruntled travellers in reception unhappy with dirty, damp smelling rooms. We got our key and went to room. Smell of damp in corridor and on opening room door it just got worse! We did a quick check of bathroom and discovered that under the seat of toilet were hairs and stale urine. The bath had lots of mould around edges and it was not clean. The floor was also not very clean in places. We returned to reception and got a full refund and left to drive the 4 hours home rather than stay another minute in this place. Shame as we had just spent 2 nights in Travelodge at Hilsea which was fine! The receptionist was not at fault at all in this matter!

Tried to telephone for cheaper rate room as advertised,absolutely impossible to get through....in the end paid the same price for a rather unpleasant smelling room, which did not include breakfast, as we would have paid for a comfortable B and B with a full English breakfast. Also limited on toilettries, towells and pillows.

stayed here recently en-route, having read some pretty awful reviews was wondering why I had ever booked.
we had a special offer booking of 19.00 for the night, which is very cheap, first impressions were ok, reception clean and fresh smelling, but not very modern looking ? no vending machines as mentioned on the website ? maybe they are hidden somewhere ?
Our room was at least clean, smelt slightly damp but no sign of mould or anything nasty !
Bathroom was spotless, shower curtain appeared brand new, I know travelodge state on their website that they won't supply bathmats because they cause slips and accidents , but really there is nothing worse than stepping out of the bath or shower with clean warm feet onto cold floor, I am certain most people use the hand towels instead !! they were a bit grey !!
The main problem was the bed, the bed linen was very clean and fresh and when we settled down for the night the bed felt ok, but a few hours into the night we both woke up because the bed was incredibly hard and uncomfortable, in the early hours my Husband was so uncomfortable we laid the clean bath towels in the bed under his back and he slept on them for extra cushioning, fortunately we like to shower in the morning, as had we used them already and they had been damp, we couldnt of done this.
All things considered it was a better stay than I thought it would be, but you do get what you pay for !
