Knowing my love of good food and fine wine, my Partner arranged this stay as a Christmas present. It proved a welcome break for just the two of us between the Christmas and New Year holidays. The fantastic deal included Champagne in the room, plus Dinner and Breakfast in the Bistro. The sublime quality of the food matched perfectly the extensive wine list and wonderfully balanced atmosphere. The room was as faultless as the wonderful location. Quality at this price is hard to find, but yet more bargains were to be had the next morning. My partner was in her element visiting the sales in the upmarket clothes shops situated at the heart of this unique heritage city. Back next year I think.

We have been going to the HdV in Winchester for many years now. This Christmas we returned to eat on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We didn't stay, as we are within a 6 miles radius of Winchester, so there was no need.

We were greeted by a very nice lady on reception who took our coats and showed us to the bistro. We were absolutely delighted to see the return of the restaurant manager Lucky. He certainly knows how to run a smooth ship and is a delight to deal with. The whole team worked very hard on both days, which helped to make it a most enjoyable and fun time. The food was excellent on both occasions and the service and the atmosphere faultless.

We eat in many places in and around Winchester, but I have to say, this remains our favourite each time. The staff are more than happy to please - you just have to ask.

Yes, we will return time and time again. Thank you to all of the staff at HdV for making it yet again a very memorable occasion.

We have stayed here previously and had comfortable rooms though on this occasion the room was rather noisy. Breakfast was brilliant, our Christmas lunch was really good even though they were very busy. Wine can be expensive but there are excellent and reasonably priced wines available if you choose carefully. The location is excellent in the centre of Winchester.

We enjoyed staying at the hotel, but the room was really too small given the cost. However, it was very comfortably furnished, with a lovely bathroom. The location in central Winchester is perfect, and we managed to get a space in the hotel car park.

We didn't eat dinner at the hotel, but the breakfast was good. The service was ok, but we noticed that other tables were offered toast and pastries, whereas this was not offered to us. However, once we requested it, the waitress quickly brought some toast over - but she didn't bring any croissant etc. However, although the breakfast service could be improved, the food was delicious. There was a wide range to choose from in terms of cooked breakfasts.

We probably wouldn't stay here again. Although it is a nice hotel, the rates are probably not justified. We prefer other hotels in the Hotel du Vin chain.
