“A First Class Wedding Venue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We chose this hotel for my daughter's wedding celebration for several reasons: A stunning beautiful setting, a country house hotel with a really nice atmosphere, and a genuine interest from the hotel's management in making the event work well. The hotel's Dawley Barn function room is ideal and all other acommodation is first class, albeit a shade on the expensive side. Nevertheless it was a very special occasion and therefore worth it.

Food provided for the wedding breakfast, catering for 60 or so guests was excellent. And throughout the night the hotel's staff worked hard, worked discreetly, and with unfailing courtesy and helpfulness. We certainly appreciated their efforts. And, if you're not there for a wedding the event is managed in a way that ensures guests staying for a quiet weekend or dinner are not disturbed by a boisterous party.

For those staying over, an excellent full breakfast was provided in a private dining room, and we were able to finish off our stay with a fascinating demonstration of falconry.

We would not hesitate to recommend Lainston House as a wedding venue, or even a luxury weekend away.

Room Tip: All rooms are different and all beautifully appointed.

“Afternoon Tea”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

Having visited in November 2010 and had a wonderful Champagne Afternoon Tea i decided to treat my daughter for her birthday in January 2012. I was extremely disappointed on several counts. Firstly due to a wedding ceremony taking place, it would seem all staff were making this a priority and we were taken to our table and left unattended for an unacceptably long time before even given a menu. Once our order had been taken, we were again left quite a long time until any food arrived. We felt we had been just put in the corner of the bar, where a lot of the wedding guests were meeting prior to the ceremony, this was in stark contrast to our previous visit where we found the lounge area beautifully decorated with a relaxed atmosphere, cosy, unhurried with attentive service. When I booked the most recent Afternoon Tea I was not informed there would be a wedding taking place and that we would be put in the bar area or that sercice may be slower because of this. I feel our celebration was equally important to us and we deserved the same attention, which we did not get. I feel £66 was a lot of money for the quality we received today, but was value for money on our first visit. In addition, the set Afternoon Tea menu was an aquired taste ie beetroot cake, and a slightly wider choice catering for more traditional tastes would be preferable. The waiter, although polite, never once returned to the table to check we were happy and content or indeed if we required anything further, we also had to find someone to settle the bill and pay a compulsory service charge which i do not think was deserved on this occasion. Wont be hurrying back im afraid to say.

“overrated”

We won a trip here and I was very much looking forward to it but unfortunately we did not have a very good experience here. I would never write a bad review for the sake of it as I always look for the positive but they made our Saturday evening such a disaster and I thought having given my online feedback I may be contacted by someone but clearly they couldn't be bothered. We decided to make the most of our romantic break so ordered room service which we waited for over an hour. When it arrived it was wrong and cold. We had to have everything re-cooked so by the time we ate it was nearly two hours after we ordered and we were starving. Also our bathroom floor was dirty as were the coffee mugs for room tea. I had a drink at the bar which I accidently spilt which they saw but didn't do anything about until I asked after a while so they brought napkins for me to clear it ur myself, which whilst I was perfectly happy to do I would have thought they would do considering I wasn't in just some pub! Whilst they recognised their mistake with dinner and gave us our meal discounted I would rather have had the manager phone and apologise which they said he would do. On the positives it is beautiful and the staff are lovely and they made us feel welcome. I just wouldn't go back.

“Fabulous Christmas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

My husband and I stayed Christmas weekend. The Silverhorn suite was fantastic. Bathroom had everything, heated floor included! Cuisine fantastic as much as you could eat and more. Really pleasant relaxed atmosphere. Staff really kind and helpful and did everything they could to make our stay the best in the world. Grounds lovely just to relax or walk in. The falconry display was excellent and Billy obviously loves his birds. A place to stay as often as you can.

“A wonderful weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

My partner and I stayed here for a family wedding and both felt that Lainston house was the perfect venue. Our room, Wisteria, was phenomenal with a four poster bed and huge bathroom with double sinks, a spa bath, shower with rain bars and a heated floor. There were lots of other nice little touches that went the extra mile in terms of ensuring a luxurious stay, such as the option for calling reception for fresh milk for our tea each morning, an excellent selection of refreshments in the rooms etc. The staff were spot on and very friendly - there always seemed to be someone on hand to help but without feeling intrusive in any way. The breakfast was lovely and there was plenty to choose from.
On the Sunday we went and watched a falconry display in the grounds which was excellent. My only regret was not booking an extra night so that we could have relaxed by the fire a little longer.
