The Landguard House, B&B is absolutely wonderful.
In Sept, 09, I made a quick trip from Canada to Southampton with my elderly mother and two young children aged 9mths and 5yrs for a family wedding. We were welcomed by Yvonne with the warmest smile and cheerful welcome after almost 14 hrs of travel. This was the first time I had booked anything on the internet, so I was very unsure of what we would find at the end of our trip. Our first impression was our lasting impression!
From beginning to end, our 7 day stay was perfect. Yvonne and Martin were so happy to help us in any way. At my request, by email they assured me that they would have a play pen for the baby to sleep in, a kettle to boil water for bottles and even a dryer for my hair. The idea of sharing bathrooms made me feel a little uneasy as we had never stayed in a B&B before, but it all worked out perfectly. The entire house, all three floors of rooms are immaculate! The 4 bathrooms were spotless, there was never a line-up. The cleaning staff come in every day so there is barely a trace of any other guests staying there with you. In the morning they like you to be out by around 10am, but were very understanding and accommodating to us because of the jet lag and having young children. Yvonne and Martin have a lovely dining room with at least 6 tables so you never had to wait for your breakfast. A full "English" gave you the start you needed, and on days we wanted something different we has toast, fruit, yogurt etc. We had a table just for us each morning with feeding chair for baby always ready.
As you can see, we don't have a negative thing to say about this place. It was because of the hospitality that Yvonne and Martin showed us, our whirlwind trip was such a success.
I guess for anyone reading this, you might think that this place is too good to be true.
Well, it is great value for money and the service was superb, but if I had to think of anything that could be improved upon, the only things I could say that are really just me being picky and did not affect my stay at all would be,
#1 I love fresh fried tomatoes, not canned, sorry
#2 If you are renting a car or have traveled by one, you need to be back early to get a parking spot in the front as there is only room for about 5 small cars, otherwise you have to park along one of the side streets. People in England are very used to this as many of them own a home and can't even park in front of their house, but as a guest it bugs you a bit. Still, nothing major. It is only 2 mins from the central train station which is really easy. We flew in to Gatwick and took a 2hr train ride to Southampton. It was all very do-able.
That's it, you won't regret staying at the Landguard House. Service, value and hospitality is top notch and I would gladly recommend it to anyone I know. On our last day, my 5 year old decided that we should do something nice for Yvonne because she was so nice to us and always got her what she wanted for breakfast and made her smile when she was jet lagged and woke up on the wrong side of the bed. She gave her a big bunch of flowers!
We will definitely visit again.
Have a great stay, eveyone.
Thanks, Adele
Thank you Yvonne and Martin
