“Lovely hotel but soooo hot!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We stayed at the Mecure Dolphin for one night, the outside of the hotel was lovely, the reception area, dining room and bar were all very nicely decorated. The reception staff were so helpful and polite and answered any questions we had.

We had a room on the ground floor, it was very nice, tea/coffee facilities, well decorated etc. However the batroom seriously let it down. Tiles were missing down the side of the bath, mould on the walls, tired and chipped bath. It looked like they'd tried to update the rooms by adding a modern sink but unfortunately it didn't work as the sink was not level and the finish under the sink was appalling! We also had a problem with the water draining away.

Its a real shame as we loved the rest of the hotel. The room at night was stifflingly hot, even though we had turned the radiator down. It meant we were unable to sleep very well and I also woke with a headache from the flat pillows.

The breakfast was absolutely top notch and adgain the staff were very attentive.

Overall we would stay in the hotel again but we would probably take our own pillows and maybe go when the heating was switched off!

“Fantastic little gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Stayed here for my partners birthday and was amazed! Booked an advance purchase rate only a week before at £39!!! I admit I was kind of expecting to be put in the basement for this price but we had an amazing room; very spacious with a seperate living room area and desk. The corridors are abit of a maze but that is the only downside to this lovely hotel. We were able to check in at 11am which was a suprise and our bags were stored for us after we had checked out. Other than a slightly abrupt night porter, all staff were lovely and very helpful.

Breakfast was also included in this price which I couldnt believe and everything was cooked to order! I absolutely hate buffets and other than the cereal and pastries, it was all itemised on a menu which was served to us. Everything tasted fresh and delicious and the breakfast staff were lovely too.

As we missed out on dinner we returned yesterday to try out the menu and I loved it. I had the lamb stew with crusty bread and the crumble for dessert....it was EXACTLY what I wanted when it was rainy and -4 outside! The 2 restaurant staff were really polite and friendly and we didnt wait for anything!

Already booked to stay again; definately recommended!!

“Excellent hotel with fantastic staff, food & situated in perfect location - what more could you ask for?”

I booked a weekend away to celebrate my mums 60th Birthday; she grew up in Southampton so thought a trip down memory lane was in order! We arrived early and were greeted by warm & friendly receptionists who let us check in before 2pm which was great. My mum received a wonderful birthday card waiting for her in our room which was such a sweet thought! We dined in the signature restaurant where we were served by the best waiter in the world - attentive and nothing was too much trouble. 3 delicious courses & wine for a very reasonable price. The twin room was lovely... Everything you could ask for - we had a great nights sleep. A fab hotel with excellent staff and we'll definitely be coming back soon. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

“Lovely last minute Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I stayed at the Dolphin Hotel, got a last minute room for £49 which in its self is a really good price as normal days it can extend to £125,00. The room was very well modernised with top furniture and decor as well as a plasma screen TV and nice bedding and pillows. The room was tucked away from the main corridors and resturant so it was a very lovely quite area of the hotel. The only problem we had was the TV was not working and was blurred I called down stairs and staff where happy to help. They sent the duty manager up in seconds and he started too try and fix the TV and it didnt help so we got offered a room change. It was a benefit for us as the room we got changed too was double the size and a lot nicer with table and chairs. The hotel rooms come with hot drinks and biscuits which i think is a very lovely personal touch too the room. We ordered room service for food that night the food was a little cold, but I can understand it was carried by two staff members, how ever the food was very good tasting, a little expensive for the overall taste and apperance but it was a nice meal to end the night. Check out i think should be extended a little futher as 11 can be quite a rush to pack up and leave but it is a fair time. Overall the hotel itself was a lovely little place! Don't let the outisde put you off, inside its a very lovely place even though the building its self looks run down and unkept. I would reccomend this hotel too anyone, more suitable for buisness, couple and last minute.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your review

I was delighted to read you enjoyed your stay and hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Mercure Southampton Centre Dolphin Hotel in the future.

One point I was confused about was your reference to the hotel looking 'rundown' from the outside which I find surprising as the hotel completed a £4 million redevelopment programme in 2010 including the painting of the exterior?

kind regards

“OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

The water from the tap was dirty. I could smell a scent of mould in the corridors and room. The breakfast was great and the bar&lobby was nice. Big minus for the porn channels. Good with the coffe and tea selection. The pressure from the tap in the bathroom was to strong, spashed all over me.
