“Strange, but convenient, location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

I've stayed here a few times now and I've always thought of its location as one of the weirdest I've ever seen. Convenient and fairly central, but built on a busy roundabout it's a nightmare to enter either by car or foot (in fact - according to others - I didn't even know it had its own car park). Nonetheless the hotel is nice enough and what you'd expect from a Jury's.

A couple of things grated for me: first, the shower. How is it in this day and age, hotels, let alone hotels of any note, still use shower curtains? These curtains are those that get drawn in by water and will cling to the person like iron filings to a magnet. At one point I felt I was going to be mummified by the wretched thing and the maid was going to find me the next morning suffocated, cocooned in this wretched thing, due to water cascading down and overflowing to the next floor. The other thing that I can live with but find irritating is the fixed shower head. This means the height can't be altered, and due to that, nether does it have a great deal of flexibility.

Secondly, the pillows are very thin and whereas you might only need one at home, you'd need two here.

Nonetheless, I will be using this Jury's again - I have to get over to Southampton for my own reasons and it's convenient and cheap enough (booked via hotel websites anyway).

Views can be good, more so if you overlook the river for the shipping.

“Central Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Stayed here for 1 night prior to a cruise. Good room facing front of hotel. Underground car parking (bit tricky to find) easily missed as hotel is in middle of busy roundabout.
Room clean & tidy served it's purpose for the night.
Just had coffee/juice & toast in the morning as heading for the cruise.
Very popular hotel with cruise passengers and business people.
The only problem we had was on arrival back at our room after a late night out and drinks in the bar the door keycard would not allow us into our rooms (with friends) which involved the men having to go back to reception to get the night porter up to sort it out. All this took about 30 mins when all we wanted to do was get to bed.

“Clean Basic Functional and Cheap”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

This hotel is well placed for the centre - for shopping and the Guildhall. An easy walk from the train station - no car park of any consequence advertised so we went by train. Room functional and clean - towels left a lot to be desired, small and so threadbare they had holes in. Everything else worked fine. Didn't eat here as on room only basis and didn't feel like I had missed anything particularly special. Check in ok - check out very slow, queue nearly out he door. Price you pay for a late check-out (12 o'clock). All in all - ok if you just need a bed for the night - which we did.

“Cold, dreadful hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

This hotel is in the middle of a busy traffic island and looks like a 1960's office block. The bar area is cold, the restaurant is cold and my room was cold. It took 30 minutes to take our order for dinner and then another 20 minutes to get the food. My room was so cold that I needed two duvets and a blanket to keep warm. When I commented on this to the staff all they said was that it was a particularly cold night. With a line of 6 people waiting to check out I didn't wait for the single receptionist to check out in the morning.

“Decent hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

In my opinion, this hotel is on a par with a typical Premier Inn. I ariived too late to eat in the resturant and had to leave too early to have breakfast, but it all appeared to be nice enough. The staff were friendly, the room was large and clean. If arriving by car keep your eyes peeled for the signs. It's under the hotel which is in the middle of a roundabout, and the access take you away from the roundabout and then back towards it again. There's a nice friendly Indian Resturant nearby which is useful if you arrive late as I did, although the hotel did offer to provide bar food out of resturant hours.
