“Peaceful night in city hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Stayed for one night with my wife and 18 year old son. There was ample parking and the hotel even guarantee a parking space for all guests!
Our family room was ideal for 3 adults, large with high ceiling containing double and full size single bed as well as table, chairs and good quality flat screen TV. Matching large bathroom, with glass screened thermostatic controlled shower over what seemed to be a longer than usual bath.
The room was clean and decorated in traditional style, a nice change from the over bland approach in most chain hotels.
Our room was at the back of the hotel and particularly quiet, no noise from outside – no noise at all in fact, which was remarkable given that this is a city hotel.
We chose to eat just across the road at “Dock o’ the bay” restaurant (see separate review) but noted that the hotel do offer room service from their bistro menu at no extra charge, a nice touch, perfect for a “TV” dinner and something we might try on a future visit.
Breakfast was excellent, thick bacon and good quality sausages amongst the choices. It was promptly cooked to order and the hot, fresh taste was much better than the usual buffet items at many hotels.
All in all a great stay, good value and a hotel I am happy to recommend.

“Good value, comfortable dog friendly hotel”

Really nice hotel, perhaps not in the best area of Southampton but set well back from the road and very quiet in the back facing room we had. The hotel is in two old Victorian? houses so is full of character. Staff very friendly and helpful. Really nice room with comfortable bed and big bathroom. (with the highest water pressure i have ever found! takes about 60 seconds to run a bath!). Really excellent breakfast and on top of all that the hotel is dog friendly and about two mins walk from Southampton Common where dogs can be exercised. Excellent value too.

“Nice place to stay before a cruise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

We stayed at the Elizabeth House for one night prior to a cruise.
The hotel is family run and was very comfortable, with an excellent full english breakfast.
The family room was very clean and large by modern standards and had a king size double with an extra bed in the room. It was at the front of the hotel, but was quiet even though the hotel is on a busy road.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
We decided to leave our car there for the 2 week cruise, as they only charge £4 per night and we only needed a short taxi ride to the port.
We were very happy with our stay, and would recommend it to anyone.

“Comfortable, and good value....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

My wife and I have just completed a week's stay at this hotel, and found it to be comfortable and of good value, and conveniently located to a nearby relative. We occupied a large en-suite room immediately above the front entrance containing a double & a single bed. With the two heavy double glazed windows closed, traffic noise is very subdued, but as we always have at least one open when sleeping, initially the noise of passing traffic during the night was unsettling - but after a couple of nights, one gets used to it. For those who are seriously disturbed by night noise, it might be worth asking for a room towards the rear of the hotel. Free wi-fi (with a strong signal) is a bonus, as is the full range of Freeview TV programmes on a large modern flat screen - the en-suite toiletries were limited (bath gell, shampoo & small tablets of soap), but quite sufficient for normal needs.
As noted by most of the other travellers, breakfasts were quite comprehensive and well cooked & served, with piping hot plates (ALWAYS a good sign..!), and whilst fresh fruit is not on display amongst the cereals & fruitjuices, it's always available if asked for. It's waiter service, which is a nice touch, and the coffee is always fresh and of good quality.
The owner managers are very much hands on, frequently helping with serving the guests, and were pleasant and most obliging. For longer stays, it's worth asking for a reduction in the daily rate.
Sadly we didn't get a chance to try out Lizzies, the downstairs bar & bistro.
We would certainly stay there again.

“Ideal for a pre cruise stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

We were on a cruise leaving Southampton on a Monday and decided that it would be a good idea to stay overnight the night before.having checked the internet my wife phoned the hotel direct and arranged a one night stay. I was given directions by the owner to the hotels location and found that having travelled from the North it was easily located on the A33, basically a straight run in from the A34 and Motorway.
We had a warm welcome and quickly parked the vehicle(more than ample parking both at the front and rear.We were allocated a room at the from which was spacious clean and tidy and the en-suite was also clean and tidy.
Had a couple of drinks from the bar and even though it was 14th October was still warm enough to sit out in the rear garden.
Breakfast was excellent, and we arranged to leave our cases whilst we had a walk into the City Centre ( approx 15 min)
What we hadnot realised was that the hotel also did stay and cruise deals where your vehicle is parked whilst on the cruise and you goto and return from the terminal by taxi.
Distance to the terminal is 3 miles and we were told to expect a 10min drive, however check how many ships are in and if like on our visit there are three then expect lengthy traffic delays. we left at 1145 in order to check in at the terminal for 1230 but only got there at 1.15 have sat in stationary traffic. Obviously not the hotels fault but a note worth taking and checking on Southamptons Docks website.
