“About a so called "en-suite" bedroom”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 April 2010

person found this review helpful

We stayed in a double bedroom with what they called an "en-suite bathroom", in April 2010. Other reviewers probably stayed in the same bedroom as we sympathise with many of their observations, especially the awkwardness in using the tiny little toilet at the end of the bed. You simply could not sit down and close the door unless you had the body of a five year old child; it was almost an insult especially when you heard, as we did, from the person in charge, that the owners where having a good time on their retirement at their house in France. Nothing wrong with that but somehow I would like to know if they had tried this toilet or if they had it like this in their retirement house. It made us very angry the way they treated their customers. Fair enough they wanted to maximise profits but the toilet, the little cubicula shower in a glad box at the end of the bed, where you would find it impossible to collect the soap from the floor if it fell, and the 7 to 8 AM window for breakfast were appalling examples of expensive and bad service: we thought that the £62 per night was a rip off. The person in charge did not even know how to operate the telephone when we requested to use it from our room; she kindly lent us her own but we just found it sad how you have to pay a lot for less all the time. Only the collective opinion of people expressed on sites like this could make this business consider treating its customers more fairly, so keep writing reviews to put pressure on them for better customer treatment. After al they depend on us. In their defence, the place was warm, clean and the manager polite.

“Does the job”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2009

I've stayed at the Banister House seven or eight times in the last year and wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.

The rooms, whilst small, are spotlessly clean and in good decorative order. There is a wifi connection.

The breakfast is served efficiently by the particularly polite owners.

In terms of area, the hotel is within walking distance of the city centre and train station. It is also very close to Bedford Place, which has just about every type of restaurant and take-away you could think of, plus pubs and convenience stores.

“Great time and super little B n B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2009

I stayed in a twin room with a friend; we checked in about 7pm and were allowed to our room. The owners were lovely and the whole B n B was a really a pleasant stay. The breakfasts were delicious and of average size - a full English, juice, coffee etc.

Our room had no en suite but this was great as we got to use a bath or shower as we wanted. Rooms were comfortable with flat screen TV and great beds.

This B n B is closely situated to the town but quiet - ideal. The whole B n Bwas quiet and really enjoyable. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone coming to this area. Great VFM.

Only one minor negative - due to popularity of B and B the car park was full. Road parking had some time restrictions.

“Hotel de Charme in Southampton”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2009

My wife and I live in Verbier and this charming hotel was recommended to us by a friend in Switzerland who stayed at Banister House Hotel last March. We were certainly not disappointed: Warm and friendly welcome by the owners who could not do enough to make our stay a memorable one, comfortable and immaculately clean and tastefully decorated rooms, delicious breakfast served with efficiency and a smile. The location is ideal - extremely central yet quiet and safe. We have already booked a return visit in October!

“Excellent very friendly family run hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2009

Very comfortable and clean hotel. Some rooms have an en-suite facility built in, ie a shower cubicle added to a room, but still very functional. Owners are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast food is of very good standard. Cheaper to book directly by phone or on their own website.
