We stopped here on a cruise package (which a majority of their guests must do on some nights I suspect.) prior to the second outing of the QE. We were hoping to start the Cunard experience a little early, but were let down. Room was fine, parking and transfers were fine (except as noted later) "cruise lounge" was a handy feature and breakfast was good. The concept of the cruise package is good, but there were issues.
Location isn't bad, although the layout of the Southampton docks means that if you're staying for a cruise, despite being able to see your ship, transfer may take little while. Hotel is fairly close to shopping centre if you need any last minute items though, but then again, so are most of the hotels near the docks.
What let the stay down were two main things - the restaurant was rather under par, with multiple mistakes with orders and omissions even for our small party and the food was only OK considering the claimed level of grandeur. The other thing that was a major problem was the lack of staff. As other reviewers have noted, check in, check out and concierge had ridiculous queues due to lack of staff. As your transfers for cruise package have to be booked through concierge, this led to brief worries on departure day. This may be down to spikes of bookings due to major sailings, but if the manager can't staff in line with such easily anticipated events as this, they're doing a poor job.
On the positive side, the pyramid/scenic elevator is something slightly out of the ordinary, although it was very hot despite being a November sailing! Plus the rooms were fine and quite quiet despite being so close to the main roads and the dock. On balance, the issues with service at dinner (or total lack thereof) and understaffing at busy times means we'd not be back.
No pics I'm afraid, but feel free to get in touch with any requests for more details.
