“Clean, cosy, friendly - and great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

Really doesn't seem fair that the the previous comment should taint the reputation of this lovely B&B. The folks who run it are incredibly friendly and even looked after my bag for several hours after I had checked out whilst I carried on my visit. The breakfast times were displayed in the room and I was also told the times on arrival. Breakfast timings were most generous and unhurried with a good variety of cereal, fruit, yoghurt, plus of course a full English. Room was very pleasant, a decent size, good amount of storage, very clean and exceptionally good value at £27 for a standard single (with wash basin). The bathroom (with bath and shower) and also a loo were right alongside my room and were only shared with one other room. Other rooms have en suite. TV at no charge with loads of channels and great reception. Plenty of tea/coffee/milk etc available. A few minutes walk gets you to the sea front and there are very frequent buses from a few steps away. I'm coming back next year.

Room Tip: Not the greatest of views from the standard single room so if that's important to you, ask for a...

“Not the place if you are running a few minutes late.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

I had high hopes for staying here, as quite a few other travelers were very kind in their reviews. I'd had some nice conversations with the gentleman who runs he guesthouse (wih his wife) before arriving. Everything was fine until it was the last day- waking up a bit late (having decided to sleep in and forgetting what time breakfast was) my partner and I went down for breakfast and , seeing the dining room empty but the breakfast cereals still out, were told (by the wife) that we were 15 minutes late and couldn't eat. We were allowed to take a banana each though, after I asked. When it came time to leave, I asked the proprietress whether I could borrow a hairdryer. She informed me that I was past checkout time (although notice of this was on the wall I neglected to read it) and we would have to leave at once. This was before I'd had a shower. After some haggling we were permitted to stay an extra 15 minutes (maybe 45 minutes past checkout) but not after being warned that we could be charged another night.

I've stayed in a range of accommodation- fro 5 star resorts to the worst backpackers you can imagine- and nowhere in the world had I confronted such inhospitality.

“Tired and in need of updating”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2011

Breakfast room was light, and modern with good array of pictures, etc. Breakfast was well served and good fresh bread toasted.
The bedrooms though were very tired looking and the decor definetly needs updating. also we booked a double room well in advance and we were in a room which also had a single bed crammed in which gave you no other space to move around in. Our room was on a busy room, butter double glazing was very dated and did not relly keep noise out, also a lot of mould /dirt spots on the framework behind the curtains
Because of this we would have liked a lounge to sit in but this did not exist either
Female host was very pleasant and welcoming and made you feel at ease.

Room Tip: don't expect anything special

“I'd definately reccomend this excellent B&B in southsea....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 May 2011

I've stayed here twice recently, once for a job interview, and then to flat hunt whilst relocating to portsmouth. I'd definately recommend this guest house. The owners are very friendly, cheery and helpful. The room itself was very nice, with a very comfy double bed, freeview tv, and pristine ensuite bathroom.

“Value for money”

We stayed here for one night, the owner was very helpful and makes the guest house what it is. It was a 30min walk along the sea front to hms victory and where all the chain restaurants and shops are. The room was clean and you could borrow an iron and board if needed. The breakfast was good and there is free parking on the street.
