“Great small hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Stayed at this hotel for one nite , rooms very clean and very comfortable , breakfast nice and nice to have a choice be it full English is not in room rate , so if your like me and like a full english , you can add 17 pounds to your room for 2, but all in a very nice place to stay

Room Tip: We had room. 3 very large loads of space which is hard to find in hotel rooms

We are very glad you found the hotel room spacious and comfortable. We lower our room rates to those you will note at similar hotels in the area to allow people the choice of a cooked breakfast. Many don't wish to have it, especially our business travellers in a hurry, so we dont like to charge for something people do not use.

We hope to welcome you again when perhaps we can show you some more of our rooms,

Kind regards

“Beautiful!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012 via mobile

Stayed in this hotel for two nights a couple of weekends ago! The room was decorated to a brilliant standard and was very clean! The hotel dealt with my request of non feathers without any problem at all and were very friendly! The breakfast was really nice with lots of choice of cereals and juices! One minor complaint is the croissants were a little bit mouldy on the first morning. Also had a small complaint about the plumbing of the room, the radiator was very noisy all night long. However this didn't prove to be too annoying. Overall the hotel was really lovely with a few tiny complaints however I would definitely stay again and have recommended this hotel to friend visiting Portsmouth soon!

“A hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We were planning a weekend in Portsmouth so I did a search on hotels as I couldn't face another disturbed night at the Ibis. I discovered this hotel and for a few pounds more, it looked a lot nicer than the Ibis. We received a warm welcome at the sister hotel Florence House on arrival and were shown to a beautifully decorated room in Somerset House hotel opposite. It had a beautiful comfy wooden sleigh bed, Sky tv and a large shower. Cooked breakfast was extra but the continental breakfast was adequate. We were so impressed by this hotel, we booked another weekend before leaving and received a generous discount. Car parking is on the street with parking permits supplied by the hotel but off street parking is also available if there are no permits left. The only thing I can find to complain about was the lack of a dressing table in the bedroom - I was going out to a dinner one evening and found it difficult to find somewhere to put my make-up on

Room Tip: The hotel has no lift facilities so request a ground floor room if you have mobility problems

“Not happy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

We booked the executive double room as featured on their website, when we got there we were so disapointed first at the room in general, then the size of the room and its location. although first impression was it was clean and comfortable however after we had been in it 10 mins it was clear the place had not been dusted for quite some time. The shower was also dirty and there was a hair in the sink. The noise from other guests was horrific simply with them just coming and going and the gap under the room door had to be covered with a towel to stop the light coming in all night. Everytime we opened the bathroom door we were terrified of hitting the tv as it was placed in such an silly position on the wall. We also found having to go across the road to the sister hotel for breakfast rather daunting. In a posative note though, the two young girls who ran the hotel were very helpful, also the bed was very comfortable, and the cooked breakfast( which was extra) was delicious. They are my only good things to say about the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask first which room you are getting not simply go on what is said on the website.

I am very pleased to hear that found our staff helpful and the breakfast we offer delicious. However I am very disappointed to read about the cleanliness of the room which is of paramount importance to us. I have taken your review to our cleaners to discuss with them and would like to express how sorry I am for this. Regarding noise, unfortunatly it is not possible for us to control guests during their stay other than to respectfully ask them to be reasonable with noise levels after a certain time, I am sorry if your sleep was disturbed becuase of this.

I do hope you will contact us directly again if you are in the area and looking for somewhere to stay so we can show you the hotel how it is perceived by the majority of our customers, as a peaceful, relaxing place to stay.

Best regards

Chris

“Very nice boutique hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

I booked an executive double room.
Unfortunately it was hard to find the hotel, even using the SATNAV, but was given helpful directions when I called.
The room was lovely and large, if I wasn't out working each day you could have spent a comfortable time just in the room.
The decour was lovely and makes a change from same old same old chain hotels, in all a very nice place to stay.
Breakfast was what I expected as I didn't want to pay the extra for the cooked breakfast, some museli and bread was fine as well as the good coffee. Perhaps it was a good job the weather was fine as I had to walk across the road to reach the other hotel they own - The Florance Hotel

The only negative point for this hotel was the difficulty in parking, though they would meet me to give me a permit to park in the street if I needed it.

Overlall impressions were very good and I do stay in many hotels and this was one of the best I have stayed in.

Room Tip: I stayed in somerset house, they do own another hotel, where the breakfast is served, so maybe the d...

Thank you very much for your lovely review, I'm glad you had a good stay and liked the different style of room in comparison to chain hotels in the area. I'm very pleased the hotel was one of the best you stayed in, this is so nice to hear.

We hope to welcome you back,

Thank you
