We stayed here for one night at the end of January. It was a bit odd walking into the hotel and then having to go up a floor before you even get to the reception but heyho. The receptionist was lovely when greeting us. In the lift you need a room key to get any higher then the first floor which was a brilliant security touch. Don't want any randomers walking around now..
The corridor on our floor was being repainted but there wasn't that horrible paint smell, thankfully. We entered our room and was pleasantly surprised. We normally stay in the usual Holiday Inns and never an express and so thought this would be extremely basic and not at all aestheticly pleasing. We were wrong. The bed was comfy (althought could have been a bit firmer), a nice sofa which I'm guessing would be pulled out as a spare bed for a third/forth person, TV was a nice size, desk, the usual kettle and drink making accessories and the mini wardrobe with hangers. The bathroom/toilet was nicely sized too. We found the fact you can separate the toilet moreso from the bathroom amusing too.
We had a good nights sleep, no noise whatsoever. One of us is a light sleeper and still never woke up even though there is some nightlife going on outside. Can't comment on the breakfast as we never had it.
If I had to choose somewhere in Portsmouth to base myself to get to landmarks and things to do/see I'd definitely stay here again. We booked about 2 weeks in advance and got a double room for £67. Bargain.
