I am very sorry to be writing this, as we have used this hotel on several ocassions when celebrating birthdays in Southsea. Up until this visit we had been satisfied with the accommodation and breakfast. Not so this time! We were told we had to pay on arrival, that did raise my anxiety level as you do wonder why. They promised the bar would be open but it was locked as was the lounge when we returned from our celebrations. The bedrooms were not brilliant, dated, not entirely clean, very dark. What did disgust us was the total lack of hot water, so not one of our party of 9 was able to shower, except those who braved a freezing cold one. During breakfast we were reminded to check out by 11. Breakfast was awful, it looked like it had been microwaved, the sausage was that anaemic colour...yuk! The toast had to be returned for some colour and crisping up!!They had no idea what a poached egg was, so we had to have them fried. We were told the kitchen was closed when we asked for some more tea and coffee. I guess we should have realised when the very loud extractor fan that accompanied our meal was turned off. Then there is the whole health and safety issue, given that a mattress was propped against the wall in the corridor in front of the fire exit! And the final straw was the noting down of guests credit card details with securtiy codes fro all to see in the register on the desk. Shameful and probably illegal. Needless to say we will be looking elsewhere for our accommodation in future and keeping a close eye on our credit card statements!
