“New Year Let Down”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Booked hotel with friends to celebrate the new year, what a complete let down. The hotel was dirty and shabby, the manager was rude, arrogant and very unpleasant. Our meals were served cold and tasteless and the waiting staff were clearly very embarrassed but couldn't apologise enough. The weekend was expensive and not worth the money. Save your money go to Butlins.

“First stay at local hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

A lovely hotel. Our first stay, as this hotel is local to home, but had the chance to stay in this wonderful historic hotel. Our room over looked Southsea common. :-) even though the staff were only told in the last 24 hours the hotel was up for sale, they were very helpful and cheerful. The only thing that spoilt our stay was the buffet breakfast, which was luke warm, due to the water keeping the food warm, was cooling, even though breakfast started at 7am, although we were at breakfast just after 8am, and do not think the price of £12.95 is justified, if not included in the room price.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the common, rooms over the road are noisy, when the clubs empty.

“Lovely Grand Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

The Queens hotel is a lovely looking grand hotel. You can easily imagine it as being the place to be in Victorian times.

Entering the vestibule you see a sweeping staircase and period features, very nice.

I had a double room which was massive and could not fault anything about it. There was even plenty of sachets of coffee (I normally only see about 2), so i had no worries whether I would run out.

The bed was large and comfortable, I think it was two singles joined together, but when in it it made no difference.

Breakfast was a buffet style, so you could have as much or as little of the cooked breakfast as you wanted. I really appreciated this as in may hotels in the area they give you what they give you and sometimes it is not quite enough. Orange and other fruit juices were "help yourself" again so much better than a single glass.

The only downside really I identified was that as this visit was for business purposes I would have to pay just under £10 for WiFi access. These days I would expect it to be included, though if it was a holiday, then it would not be an issue.

All in all it was a great stay and the staff were friendly and helpful.

“Night in the Queens Hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Had the misfortune to say at the Queens Hotel recently. From the moment I arrived it became apparent that the staff were not the slightest bit interested in making sure you had an enjoyable visit. The woman working behind the bar was more intent on drinking her hidden wine then serving. The TV in the first room I was given didn't work, I was Then given a double room with a sea view all very nice, until the wind began to blow and the poor fitting window started to rattle all night long Very loudly... Worse night sleep ever!!!

“Lovely Christmas Day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Stayed here with family for Christmas Eve & Christmas Day. Rooms were superb. Large, clean & well equipped. The views were stunning. Had lovely walk along the seafront Christmas Day morning before breakfast. Large range of food from full english to fruit salad & pastries. Recommend the 'bubbly' for a small surcharge. Christmas Day lunch was very pleasant & the staff were polite, friendly & helpful. Would happily return next year.

Room Tip: Any with sea view.
