Pros -
Upon arrival we were upgraded to Room 25 on third floor. Absolutely fantastic views over the Solent, particularly at night. The king size bed was enormous and we had a really good nights sleep, flat screen tv with inbuilt DVD, the room was comfortable very clean and warm. Bathroom wasn't particularly modern but was spotless.
The restaurant wasnt open for dinner but the breakfast was wonderful. Freshly cooked, and very tasty food, with a very relaxed atmosphere.
The public areas, lounge and bar areas are quite crowded with furniture, which might benefit from a little "thinning-out" but there were beautiful lamps and pictures in all areas.
We were given a free parking permit for our car, which we parked almost outside the front door.
Cons -
The lift - very small and dated - felt like it might break down at any given minute (although to be fair it didnt ) - it doesnt go the basement (which is where the restaurant is - this may prove difficult for less able guests)
The windows open very wide for a third floor bedroom - maybe something to think about if you are travelling with children.
All in all though, a really good stay in an old fashioned (and by this, I mean staff with good manners!!) and very comfortable hotel.
The Jolly Sailor (a 5 minute walk away, is a good pub with great food !
