We booked this hotel mainly because it was in a fantastic location, near to Gunwharf Quays and historic dockyard. I can honestly say it is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.
The bedcovers had cigarette burns in ,the toilet seat kept falling off and we were in a room with a fire escape right outside the window with some sort of generator buzzing most of the night. When I read some of the pleasant reviews for this hotel my only thought is ' what sort of places are these people used to staying in '

Stayed here with friends, the hotel is definately in need of work BUT the rooms were clean and most staff friendly. My first thought when we walked into the the room was 'what have we done'! It served its purposes which was a bed for 2 nights. Great view of the harbour and the Old Pompey burger bar just across the road, was very popular ALL NIGHT!

My partner and i stayed one night on our way to Spain via the ferry from Portsmouth. We booked hotel prior to reading the reviews as we have learned from past experience that they can give the wrong impression after all...... one mans meat ..anothers poison. The hotels location is superb we had sea front room and 5 min drive to ferry terminal and a bonus in the free adjacent car park.

The receptionist was pleasant and efficient, yes the lift was of old school a little rickety but i imagine safe and sound. Our room was spacious and clean, yes it is furnished with dark
wood furniture which had seen better days but if they updated to the modern look perhaps the character of the room would be diminished. A kettle and plenty of tea/ coffee sachet were provided, towels clean nice comfy bed.....In the morning we went to the breakfast room which in its hay day must have been wonderfull, a little TLC is required but more than made up with the quantity and quality of the food coupled with wonderful service from chatty staff far removed from the sterile service found in more opulant hotels.
We have travelled extensivly over 50 years and we know that you cannot please all of the people all of the time.... yes we have stayed in more up market hotels but have paid for it, as regards value for money we would say.... very good value... keep an open mind and do not look for faults, think how many places give free car parking today....

The room had a double and a single bed in it and still lots of space. We had a front facing room so we were able to look accross the harbour and see the Spiniker. The hotel is well situated for the transport links, all of the museums, the Spiniker and the very new Gunwharf shopping and bars for eating.

We stayed for two nights and it was comfortable with big breakfasts which set us up for the days.
