“An excellent hotel with wonderful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

I stayed here for a few nights last year. I can't actually think of anything at all to say that is bad about this hotel. All the staff, without exception, were charming, helpful and friendly. My room was enormous, clean and comfortable. I asked for a quiet room and a fan heater, there being no central heating, and was given both quickly and efficiently. The breakfasts were superb. I ate dinner there one evening and that was superb too!

The location of the hotel is not pretty, being very close to the M27, but there is a regular bus service right outside which will take you into the centre of Portsmouth at a reasonable return fare. If you are a light sleeper, pack some wax earplugs and ask for an inward-facing room.

Car parking is not free but the charge is reasonable.

I'd highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet courtyard-facing room away from the M27 motorway.

“Good Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

I had a spacious pleasant, clean room everything you would expent when staying at a Hilton.
the only problem i had was on the first two mornings i had no hot water.
The staff were all pleasant and helpfull.
The negatives for me was that the hotel was a bit out of the way although close to the M27.
Meals in the bar although of a good quality were a bit expensive.

I had a corporate rare of 58 pounds per night which i considered very reasonable

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your TripAdvisor review. I was please to read that your room was clean, spacious and what you expected from a Hilton hotel. I am sorry that some aspects of your stay was not as satisfactory, such as the hotel being a bit out of the way, bar food a bit expensive and no hot water for the first two mornings. I therefore apologise for the inconveniences you experienced. I have shared your feedback with both the head chef and the maintenance manager for them to address, especially regarding the constant flow of hot water to the first guests to use it in the mornings. Thank you again for your feedback entitled “Good Hotel”.

Kind regards,

“Delicious food and fantastic service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012 via mobile

Came into the hotel for my birthday with my husband. Didn't stay in the hotel but went to the restaurant for dinner. The food was impeccable and the service was great. The staff weren't overally busy, but I felt as if everything was done promptly and efficiently. I couldn't fault the food. Would definitely go there again!

“Motel or hotel”

Don't be put off by the initial appearance or location (right next to the M/A27). It is a hotel, although it needs a bit of refurbishment, and not just the supposedly £150,000 spent on the gym (they definitely ought to ask for a refund - about £145,000 in fact!). When hotels have large groups or are holding big parties, they ought to allocate rooms to guests not participating in quieter parts of the htoel. They didn't in our case! Not only were we on the ground floor next to the car-park and M/A27 but had a very noisey fire-door slamming on a regular basis until the last guest arrived back. Apart from that, not a bad hotel and easy to find and easy to get to either Southsea or historic Portsmouth. And friendly staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlloking the inner courtyard and not facing the M/A27.

“Family Room First Timer”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

I stayed at the Hilton as I wanted to take my family around the Historic Dockyards in Portsmouth. Four of us shared a room, me, my wife and our two daughters aged 3 and 8. I weighed it up against the Holiday and Premier Inns in the area. We took advantage of a cheap December sale rate of £86 for four with breakfast. The service and check-in was fine, but there were some issues with the stay.

The fire doors, or other guest room door closers outside our room were set too tight and slammed through the night, waking up all of us at some stage. The hotel is very close to the motorway so traffic noise was a problem, I probably should have checked this. The second double bed also creaked alot keeping my wife and I awake if either of us moved. On Sunday morning we were surprised to find no hot water for a shower.

I mentioned the issues to reception and received an apology, the duty manager solved the hot water issue. The breakfast was good, as you would expect in a Hilton.

In summary, you can't expect too much for what we paid, we were paying hostel prices, and some of the sleep issues may have been related to the fact it was the first time we have used a family room together. However, I did expect a little bit more from a Hilton, and this Hotel does not compare favourably with other Hiltons I have stayed in.
